I'm not clued up on all current scams but would question why the potential buyer requires the SIM card no.

I can understand wanting to know what the telephone number and network is but, IMHO, any other information is irrelevant at this stage.

If I were you, I would reply advising them of who the network is and what the telephone number is.

If they insist on knowing the SIM card no. I'd ask them why they need this information.

Edit: Just thought, the SIM card no. can (also) be used to confirm who the network provider is so.
  • I wouldn't give them any of these details. I would tell them which network it is with and also tell them the last 2 digits (some people don't want a number ending in 13, and I ONLY use phone numbers ending in 0 and 5 so would want to know this before buying).

I would not give the phone number out as the new owner of the SIM could end up getting spam/harrassment calls/texts as a result, which would then be the fault of the seller for giving their number out.

I would not give the SIM number out because it is possible to clone and again this could cause problems for the eventual buyer and could end up with you being technically abetting criminal activity (however inadvertently this may be).

OK, curosity has got the better of me!

Why do you only use 'phone numbers ending in a 0 or 5? Why would someone not want a number ending in 13?

Apologies in advance if I'm being extremely thick!!

I'm guessing 13 as it is bad luck, but 0 or 5 i'm not sure.

My mobile number has got 666 slap bang in the middle of it, and I love it! :-)

    Some people are superstitious.

I just prefer my phone numbers to end in 0 or 5. Always have done.

I would be extremely suspicious of this request - although I can't be sure, it wouldn't surprise me if having the phone number and sim number would allow someone to register the sim into their own name, then contact the service provider and transfer the £10 credit to another account. As I say - I'm not quite sure this would work, but I can't think of any other reason that they would require the sim number...

Ive had another request from this potential buyer for the info ,they say its because they want to be sure they are purchasing a legit card , the picture shows an unopened card. this person is new to eBay but has appalling grasp of English. Ive just sent a message back saying im uncomfortable giving out this info and to look at my 100% feedback which hardly suggests i scam people !

Perosnally I would now block them- the moment a buyer makes me feel uncomofortable I will no longer risk dealing with them.
