How much did you spend on your car

Under £2k every time. That way if you buy the right cars they will be reliable and you lose little on them. I always buy subaru's as they go forever and are mega reliable. No diesels though !0

Which is completely wrong of course but some people fail to understand that not every buyer will be as up on cars as they are so they like to feel superior and point out that they can do it so everyone else should.
I see your point exactly, thats why I said in my post that when I got my motorbike I'd be buying a brand spanker as I know less about them. Cars however, if something does go wrong you are far less likely to become a greasy smear on the road. I do know enough about cars that I have a fair chance of spotting a dog though...Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
I have had 3 brand new cars and owned them for a total of just over 10 years. Only one of them ever had an issue that needed repairing under warranty and that was a pipe breaking from the washer bottle.
I have owned a couple of second hand cars and had a lot more problems such as the front suspension struts needing replacing in a 4 year old Fiesta.
Brand new has always been a lot more reliable to me and I have the comfort of knowing the issues are covered and my expenses are largely fixed.
I must admit I view dampers as service items.
I've replaced back ones on mine bought at a few months old, at about 5 years, and the "banger" had a pair about 20,000 miles after we bought it. (Around 100,000 miles on the clock) None failed the mot though, just wore out slowly.0 -
£575, and had it for over two years now, why pay more?0

One thing that shows up peoples perceptions on here though is when i came on asking advice about engine type and so on. got some rather haughty replies from people who were either being just plain nasty or were properly jealous about it. Also had people telling me i would have nothing but trouble from it and to stay away.. A year later and nowts gone wrong with it.
Go figure.
P.S. I did get some nice helpful advice too - so thanks to them."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
We have two Mazdas bought new 2 years ago. One for about £20k (with £10k on 0%), one for £11k (£9k on finance). Both finance deals over 3 years. Our intention is to keep both cars for 7-8 years as they are very likely to meet our requirements for at least that period of time (one large estate, one small runabout). Given the long projected ownership period and our requirement for a reliable car for long journeys and MrsLA's work I believe buying new was a reasonable route to take.
