i am trying to do my boss a favore and fix his Time PC which will only start in safe mode. Normally when i fix my own PCs i just reinstall XP on them. However my boss doesn't have an XP disc so i am not easily able to do so. Is it possible for me to extract the XP key from his machine and then use it when i put a new copy of XP on it? If so how do i get the key from the machine? Also if i do get the key will it work with any copy of XP home that i have or will it not work as the key found will be for the OEM version that is on the Time machine right now?

if it is legit, there should be a COA sticker on the PC, with the XP key.
As far as using your own disk, it has to be the same type of XP, e.g. XP home SP2 or whatever.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
The Time computer will have an OEM key... It will only work with XP Home OEM and not retail. As albertross said the key will be on the machine (on the back panel probably) Remember that it will have to be re-activated as well.0

Cheers but that is an OEM with key. I only need the OEM CD with no key or license as the PC has a key and license. Or am i talking rubbish?0

If there is no sticker then there is no license.0

Hasn't he got a rescue disc? My sons had when he had a time PC. It was a sort of Norton ghost image of the original installed OS on disc .All he had to do was put it in and run it and it put it all back as it was originally. I think the actual disc image was on the hard drive and the cD just accessed it somehow.0

Time started charging for the rescue disks (£100) just before I got mine 4 years ago..0
