I have been relfecting on this.
If mum looked after him for 15 years I'd personally just tell her to keep my share, she deserves it. And I would tell my relatives that was what I was doing in case they wanted to do the same.
It feels morally better than hassling her for cash.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
I love her dearly, shes my mum but i don't trust her an inch!!
Why on earth, then, did you appoint her to administer the estate?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
OP..If you believe your mum has been taking money from everyones inheritance - then you need to act quickly perhaps before all the money goes. I doubt the rest of your relatives will be quite so understanding about the loss of their inheritance. If your mum has taken any of the money for herself, then that you be rather digusting as it was not left to her. If she has taken money - act now before she maybe takes it all.
I personally would hope that your mother would have greater integraty. OP you seem to have an easy come easy go attitude. You need to remember than your other relatives might not.
You need to sit down with your Mum and get her to come clean and go threw it all with you. See the paperwork. Look at the letters she's written.
Hard copies to banks etc on the pc. And copy in letters to relative about the state of play.
Your mother could be in alot of trouble if she has taken any of the money. Is she stalling because she has used the money and is waiting to put some back?
Or you could take the official approach and get all your relatives to write a joint letter to you mum requesting details of progress. Do something, because if your suspicions are correct - delaying could allow your mum to get into more of a mess.
If you don't understand all the processes - why not get a probate book yourself?0 -

Mind you, as there wasn't a tax liability in our case I'm not sure what happens when there is, and it sounds as if there might be in this case.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thank you very much for all your replies. They have all been useful.
I will write a nice letter to mum asking for a progress report on whats happening.
I think we have all been reluctant to chase this up because it is mum and shes getting on abit.
Even if i did pass up my share in favour of mum, not everone else would. And am i really that bad a person for wanting my inheritance? It would really help my daughter get through the next 3 years of university and help alleviate the financial stress its been causing me.
Perhaps it is too much for her at her age and perhaps we all took the easy option when she offered to stand in but she seemed to know what she was talking about. Unlike the rest of us!!
I would like to say that if she has been helping herself then i'm sure me & my siblings would forego our share to prevent any legal preceedings being brought by the other parties. Obviously that would only workif theres anything left!!!
Thanks again for the advice
i'll let you know how i get on
