Children are in reception, but only part at the moment as they are young ones..
IS is very confusing as i though we would be entitled, but maybe not. so looks like we'll have to look for a 16+ hour a week job and hope to get WTC
Thanks for everyone's advice..
You won't get WTC on 16 hours a week. As a couple you have to work 30 hours a week.
Why are you only looking for PT, why not FT?Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -
As they have kids they only need to work 16 hours to claim WTC, however this will change to 24 hours next year. You won't get WTC on 16 hours a week. As a couple you have to work 30 hours a week.
Why are you only looking for PT, why not FT?I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -

I said a 16+ hour a week job, its hard enough finding a job, i don't care whether its full or part time, just a job would be nice!!
where did you get your info that you have to work 30 hours a week please??0 -

I had children to be there to look after them, not to be working while someone else is looking after them. while they are part time i will not be working, but yes once they go full time i will be looking for a term time school hours job. Not that there are many available, as i know one came up a while ago and a friend went for it but it has 82 applicants!!0 -
The OP and her husband don't appear to be the brightest sparks in the box. So many questions:
1.Why aren't you both looking for full time employment?
2.Why is the OP's husband happy with a job for only 14 hours a week?
3.Who in their right mind gives up a job in the expectation that getting another will be easy?
4.Why can't the OP work round her husband's hours and vice versa?
5.What is 'the job' OP refers to in post 14?
6.Why sell and get off the property ladder - you might never get on there again, especially only working 14 hours a week!
It's all very odd.
1. because i had children to bring them up, not to have other people look after them
2. He is happy with A JOB, any job
3. Us stupidly as he was so unhappy/depressed/stressed
4. As i have said i will be looking for a term time, school hours job once my children are full time.
5. a cleaning job
6. Because we are worried we cannot keep up with the mortgage payments as we get no help with the payments, where as if we rent we will get help with the rent..
Hope this answers all your questions and you can come back with some constructive advice!?0 -

Well good for you. Wouldn't we all like to have had the opportunity to stay at home with our children. I'm saying no more, because if I said what I really thought ......Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -

What at the expense of those of us who pay taxes :mad:Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -
you have not answered if you have any equity in the house you are looking to sell. You will be expected to use this (if over £16k) to pay your own rent and you would not receive housing benefits.
You will still receive child benefit and child tax credits
Are you looking for any sort of work - what about evenings? I would have loved to have been a stay at home mum but had a mortgage to pay so it was not an option - in those days there was no tax credits, only child benefit so if you wanted a roof over your head and food in your childs tum you worked and paid for it. I would never have considered selling my home to be able to get free accommodation at the taxpayers expense. You may also find that many landlords will not accept people on benefits0
