Seriously, you're now in a huff because 2 people told you that the post was wrong ? Maybe I could have phrased it more 'fluffily' but I wasn't in any way rude or offensive to you. It took me 15 seconds to check on the internet and find the link that it was a hoax - the fact that this is still being sent round 6 years after it first appeared shows that not many do the same.0 -
Not in a huff, I am not 15! No, most people dont check the net for these things, they just try and warn people. Better this goes round and is wrong than people ignore it and my elderly relatives get shafted.0

So by that logic, unnecessarily worrying people about things that could NEVER EVER HAPPEN is fine. As I see it, getting this sort of hoax scare story stopped is a very good thing.0

Interesting how it's developed from the original:If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.
Chinese whispers anyone?! :rotfl:Rule 7: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it.

Gosh you mean the call has jumped from the (incorrect) £15 to an even more incorrect £315 .
Actually I think these spam emails are rather nastier than we think, we all just shrug our shoulders and direct people that pass them on to Snopes so they won;t do it again- but what about people who are vulnerable or naive and believe them?
My darling mother in law (now deceased) was a terrible worrier, she was also qiute naive about how things worked and I will never ever forgive the person who circulated the nasty scam about burgulars sitting by the green BT boxes in the street listening in through the phone line to find women who lived alone. Somebody- and yes I do know who it was , printed it off from one of these inoccent internet threads and gave it to her. She did not leave her home for days and was unable to speak, or put the TV on in case they knew she was there. She was also afraid to call for help as these people alledgedly could listen in to calls.
So please. lets all bookmark snopes and however inoccent we think these little warnings are lets remember the vulnerable people before we start posting things that are so old i'm sure Noah heard them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. but all you do is perpetuate the same old scare story that gets regurgitated every year.0 -
I have not heard it before so took it at face value.0
