BASC - HSBC Payment - What am I doing Wrong ?

I hope some one here can advise my , I have a UK HSBC bank account which I access from my home in Thailand, no problems, I all so have an account with The Alliance & Leicester Isle of Man , which I all access via the internet , no problems. I wanted to transfer some money from my UK HSBC bank account to my A&L account ( HSBC Bank Douglas Isle of Man ) as I'm not in any hurry , the A&L recommended that I transfer the money to them using the BASC option, I then asked HSBC how I could do the transfer on the internet
from my HSBC on line web page , they just said use .. create a new payee option. well ive looked and looked at all the options on the web page , but still can't see an option for a BASC payment ?

can some one please tell me what I'm doing wrong :o

Thanks William

I pressume you mean BACS payment, http://www.bacs.co.uk/Bacs/Consumers/Pages/DirectDebit.aspx bacs will take 3 days or more depending on where it is being sent from and to.

Go to your account and set up bill payer or move money to option and then enter the account details you wish to pay to.

Hi and thanks for your comments , Trust me to get it wrong :o

    BACS :)

here's a screen shot of my HSBC online web page

This is the only options part to make a payment ...

    b1.jpg

the next screen shot below is when I click the '' Make a payment ...

    b2.jpg

    as you can see there's

    1. pay a bill or organisation

    2. Send money overseas ( this option has no BACS at all )

when I click on .... pay a bill or organisation , I am taken to the screen shot below ..

here there are no options for other HSBC banks or BACS .

May be I'm missing some thing ? :o

Try and set up the pay bill option, I am with halifax and had to set up pay bill in order to transfer funds between the halifax account and my santander account.

I think it looks like send money overseas will be the option you require

"Pay family, friends and others" and do what it says. This is how you would normally send a BACS payment.

Is the Isle of Man account classed as overseas? If it has a UK sort code and bank account number then you just make a new payment and enter the details - it won't mention BACS at all, that is just the system in the background.

Thats what it would usually look like. However as it says, security reasons they've blocked it so you can't do it and should ring the number to get it activated.

Instructions to make a payment are on the screen shot you posted.

Even the telephone number for international dialling.

I'm confused, you mention HSBC UK, A&L IOM and HSBC IOM, which ones are you transferring from and to? To transfer from UK to IOM it's unlikely that you will be able to use BACS unless the IOM sortcode is a UK one (you can use the sortcode checker to see what transactions are allowed). If it's an offshore account I imagine you will have to do a SWIFT payment using the BIC and IBAN, which will cost you between £20 and £30. If the account you are paying from has a cheque book (or you have a current account with the same bank) then it may be cheaper to write a cheque and post it.

Thanks every one for the advice , its appreciated

I originally asked HSBC how I could transfer money from my UK HSBC account to the A&L HSBC account using only the BACS payment option and this was their reply ..

As you can see there's no mention of Pay family, friends and others , this is what confused me a bit , the Alliance and Leicester's HSBC bank account sort code is ... 40-19-38 , so I'm assuming that may count as a UK bank account ?

    Thanks - William

Yes and it should be accompanied with your 8 digit account number.
