Anyone good at retention haggling?
So my contract with Orange is about to expire, currently got a Sony Ericsson W995 which I've had for 18 months. Been with Orange for over 5 years now. I would very much like an iPhone 4s, though I could cope with the 4 if it was a significant saving. Anybody got any suggestions for a good benchmark to aim for a retention deal? Are they likely to haggle much on the price or should I wait til it's been out a little longer? My current contract expires in about a month. I like the Tesco deals but the upfront cost is a bit much. Could I quote those and see if they would go any lower?

There aren't any retention offers available with the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s.
At the moment, depending on usage, the minimum contract to get the handset free for the 8gb iPhone 4 is £36 per month...and for 4s it's £46 per month.
The prices sometimes go down (but only slightly) when a new iPhone is due to be launched. However, if you look for other handsets, thats when loyalty and retention deals can come into it and it's worth a call. The easiest way to do it is just tell them what you are looking for and give them the chance to build a deal, if they can't then thats fair enough, at least you've tried.0 -
There isn't much information about iPhones in there, particularly the 4s.0 -

So if I called up and quoted the Tesco deal they would refuse to match it?0 -
Almost certainly but there is no harm in trying. If nothing else if you decide to go for the Tesco deal make sure they know why you leave.0

They couldn't match it. They don't do 12mth iPhone contracts unfortunately (if that's the one you're looking it)0
