Won prize, now I haven't

Hi all.

Three months ago I received a winning email.

After six weeks, I emailed to see where my prize was and was told they were out of stock, but would be sending it out soon.

Two weeks ago, I emailed again and was told they would be sending it out that day.

Sure enough, two days later, I received my item to find it was a cheaper alternative by £150. The win was worth £250.

I emailed them to let them know they had sent the wrong item back, to which they apologised and said they would send the correct one out and I could keep the other one.

I heard no more so emailed again last week and have just received an email to say that, actually, I wasn't the winner but I can have the cheaper alternative as a consolation because it was their mistake in saying I was the winner to begin with.

Any ideas of how to proceed?
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

I had a look using the search facility, Shane, but couldn't find anything. It would be interesting to see if it's the same competition as there was more than one winner.

Was it this one? It does seem very similar - an incomplete prize followed by a claim that "actually you didn't win after all and you're not entitled to anything" (in that poster's case they had the nerve to invalidate the part of the prize that she had received). It appears that they may be putting that right now - it's really quite awesome that so many MSErs acted successfully to pressure the company into doing the right thing! :T

Have just read that thread - I can't believe someone tells you that you have won and then says you haven't, weeks later.

Mine isn't scrumpy cider but the same thing has happened. In my case, it has taken a few months, first with the winning email, then stories of delay, then promising to send out the item, receiving the wrong item and now, I'm no longer a winner.

They haven't responded to my email today. Not sure how long to give them, to respond.

Apologies for not linking to the competition thread in question but personal details are listed on the site with regards names and location of winners and I don't really want my details out there.

Wait, what? They have your details listed on their site as being a winner yet they're claiming that you're not a winner? That's a bit schizophrenic isn't it? (Also you might wanna screengrab that.)
