Did Martin manage to speak at this summit, there were a lot of people in that room and it barely lasted one and a half hours
Ok, but this is Martin Lewis we're talking about. Can you imagine him not getting his points in?
Whether he left the others any time to speak, I can't say...

Only just noticed this thread ;)

"There was an elephant in the room at yesterday’s energy summit. So when I got my chance to look in the whites of David Cameron’s eyes I mentioned it: "Prime Minister, if bills don’t come down this winter, the public will see this summit as a failure."

With regard to the government underwriting future nuclear plants :

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/8618966/EDF-and-RWE-raise-fresh-doubts-over-UK-nuclear-plans.html

"The Government is planning to propose changes to the law giving financial support to nuclear power next week in a White Paper.
It is likely to introduce a subsidy that pays companies for generating low-carbon electricity that will be passed on to consumers through their energy bills. The changes are also expected to include payments to power plants for making generating capacity available, even if it is not supplying electricity all the time"

Governments do not underwrite anything - politicians decide that tax payers do so which means that if the Government does nothing you pay (via higher prices) & if the Government subsidies you pay via higher taxes instead.

As these companies are making vast profits why don't they pay for their own infrastructure instead? (about to get tough on the energy industry they say? :rotfl:)

Is all becoming clearer perhaps ? According to "Sun City" today Alastair Buchanan of Ofgem "stunned industry bosses by strolling out of the meeting led by the PM earlier this week" whilst "Ofgem insisted their Chief left shortly before the meeting was "scheduled to end""

The Source said the rest of them had carried on for another half hour whilst as for Cameron "The PM left shortly after the opening statements"

As Martin Lewis was there perhaps he could comment as to the truth or otherwise of these early departures?

Assuming that it's true is there any wonder someone of you were asking how the Government came to end up putting out the same line as the energy companies. How can anyone be expected to take you seriously if you "call a summit" but then leave them to it, clowns. Maggie they most certainly are not!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
One thing Maggie did do though was make sure a bank of fossil fuels is nicely stock piled. At some point in the future we will be grateful for that.

Funny how most people forget this... never liked the woman, but this is one thing we might thank her for in the future.

  • Yes plus she handbagged the EU rebate, which was great.... until Tony Blair signed most of it away so he could be EU president. All EU mates... Tony & Neil and Glenis Kinnock.

The EU was always a mistake Maggie knew this and look at it all collapsing now. Waste of time and sooooo much money

Hmm, I'd be interested to know

How many customers are (& will still) be blocked from transferring (eg for debt, with other spurious objections intended to mislead etc)

How this will be monitored, enforced and by whom
