Does an EA have to tell you..?

Please don't overly judge me for this post, it is a serious question although I can understand if some people may not feel the same way. We have seen a couple of houses, in our price range that are in a bit of disrepair and from the looks of it someone old has lived there. What we were wondering if someone has died in the house, the EA has to tell us.
I know many may be skeptical of this sort of thing and I appreciate that, but I would just like to know and would probably not bid on a house that I thought someone had died in.
Thanks for your replies.

So are you only ever going to buy new houses then?
Dieing is natural you know and, as far as I am aware, unavoidable0 -
No, they don't have to tell you. I doubt many of them would know or care.
Think about it, nearly every single property in the country may have had someone die in it at some point if it's not a new-build0 -
what should they say ,Old Git died in that room ,Mrs Old Git died in that arm chair .Halloween is coming you might see a ghost .
Not really a selling point .
dont ever go into hospital ,its full off sick people and some die .
try to find out is it part off probate ,you may get it cheaper if it is ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

As a buyer, that is my discretion, so if it bothers me that much when I come to putting bids in, possibly.
Again, its just the thought that it may have happened so soon. No, I know it doesn't bother everyone. I wasn't opening a debate on the psychology of my decisions, just a question. I thank you for your replies though.0 -
My last house dated from 1700. I liked thinking about all the births and deaths there must have been in our bedroom. We found an old family bible wedged in the floorboards going back to 1750 which brought them to life.
A man died in a fire in my parents house in the 1800s. He set his feet on fire when drunk.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

For those of us who live in a Victorian property - infant mortality being what it was and with no free health care - I would say quite a few passed away in our bedroomsGather ye rosebuds while ye may0

No they don't.
Also most EAs don't know information like that so they can't tell you even if they wanted to.
And as they are sales people they wouldn't want to.
They would also think you are weird looking to buy an old property if you don't want to live in it because someone died in it.
Buy somewhere completely new if you want to ensure no-one has died in the property.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

no but most will ,EA dont realy have to tell you anything as they are paid by the seller .But if you ask is it part of probate ,they may say no the owner is gone to a home or gone to live with family .billybear1 wrote: »Ok, so do they HAVE to tell you if it is part of probate?
Just ask do you know why its been sold."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

To be fair, this isn't a really old house. As I said a couple of them are just a little run down and the decor suggests old people have lived there and there is no chain. As I said, I just wanted to know whether or not they had to tell you. I appreciate, as I said, that my views may be weird, but I wasn't asking to be judged on that!
Once again thank you for your replies
