If there's an animal in the movie, you KNOW it is there to ensure that you are bawling your eyes out by the end credits.
I've had exactly the same problem with DD - she was always upset by the RSPCA 'look at the pawr ickle doggie, he's all alone and going to DIE if you don't give us your money' adverts, and she was daft enough to think she wanted, as a cynical 12 year old, to watch Marley and Me. What are you doing, child? This is going to tear you up into little bits inside - it's an animal movie!
