Garmin Maps Out Of Date
Earlier this year I brought a Nuvi 1690 with life time maps for my wife. I was expecting at the price I payed that the maps would be up to date. But they not.
Near where I live we have a new 11 miles bypass opened over a year ago and it still not showing on my Garmin and I have all the latest up dates.
For work I have a TomTom which I payed half the price for Ok I have to pay for updates every year. But they are up to date and this bypass has been on it from just after it opened. My son has Copilot live on is Iphone and the roads on there and this cost him under £20.
This is not what I expected from a £200+ Sat nav. How can Garmin justify this?

There is no hard and fast rule as to how quickly a new road gets put on. In Bradford there is one major junction that is still shown as a roundabout at least 5 years after it was changed.
Basically there are two suppliers of mapping data for Satnavs - NavTeq and TeleAtlas and it is their data that is used by the various devices. Therefore it is possible to have TeleAtlas add the road and therefore all up to date devices using TeleAtlas mapping data showing it whilst devices using NavTeq data wouldn't.0 -
Have you updated the maps since you bought the unit? It should tell you what maps were loaded when the system was purchased and you should be able to find out from Garmin the latest version of maps they have released. If you don't have the latest version then just download it as you have the lifetime upgrades."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

At least with Garmin you will still be able to update your maps 10 years down the line. My BiL bought a TomTom and was then given a Navman. Both are now 5 years old and can no longer be updated.
There is a free alternative to the official update sites, 'OpenStreetMap' provides a Garmin-compatible map which is updated by a combination of ariel photography and by people using portable GPS units.Never Knowingly Understood.

Thanks for that I'll have a look into that0 -
There are lots of annoying little glitches on any sat nav, but if you know about this "new" road i don't see why it is a problem for you?
I never use my sat nav on roads I know."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I think you're missing the point. The OP knows that this road exists but isn't on the Garmin map, so how can he trust the maps for places that he doesn't know?0 -
