Tesco Home Delivery

I've just been in hospital for an op and i'm already frustrated at relying on my girlfriend and flatmate doing everything for me, which includes my shopping.

I intend to do my first online Tesco shop tomorrow. Is it as simple as putting things in my basket, paying and booking a delivery slot? I understand that when the delivery driver comes, the bags have to be taken out of boxes the shopping comes on ASAP as the driver has to then get to the next delivery? Is that how it works?

Anything I need to be aware of that I may not know and what to avoid. I have a code for some money off first online order....somewhere!

Thanks for any advice.

PS - The other option in my area is Asda - if they have a better reputation?

    Hi,
Is it as simple as putting things in my basket, paying and booking a delivery slot?
Yes it is. The very first time you shop with any of the online supermarkets it takes a bit of time, but after that there are shortcuts you can take - such as loading up your last shopping list as a starting point and then editing / deleting / adding items until you're happy to order.
Also Tesco will link your account with your loyalty card if you have one, although this may take a few days to process.

I've used Tesco and Asda and they have both given good service.
My dad also shops online. He's elderly and although active for his age, he does find lifting heavy items tiring.
Tesco fetches his shopping into his kitchen, and then help him unpack.
He says they are the only supermarket willing to do this - the others fetch it to the front door only.

I'm mentioning this, as you may find bending to unload shopping, and lifting difficult just now until you're recovered.
I'd tell the driver you're just out of hospital and restricted from heavy lifting. No need to give details why!

    Thanks for all your replies.

I've just checked Sainsbury's even though the nearest one is 25 miles away and they deliver to my area...

Anyway, i'll book the slot first and then do my shopping and hope i've done it before they take the slot away from me. Alot of this is for the next week or two as I bought alot of some things in before I went to hospital.

I'll be okay when the delivery arrives as someone will be here to carry it in for me, even if the driver doesn't want too, but I can ask him/her to help if need be.

Thanks again everyone for the help. I have a £10 off code too which will dampen the delivery charge :)
  • Hi, I did my 1st online grocery order a couple of weeks ago for the same reason as you!

I used Mr T's (again, I had a voucher for being a new customer).

I did find it took ages to do but I was hunting around for offers etc which I found a bit more difficult that doing in the shop - however, I believe it's easier after this as the site stores things you've ordered before.

The driver came and pointed out a couple of substitutions (all were OK but you've the option of refusing these and getting a refund). He was really polite & helpful and didn't make me feel like I was asking too many questions/holding him back at all.

The other good thing I found is that I've only small supermarkets here (and both nearly 20 mile round trip) which have limited stock - as the online orders come "from the big supermarket in town" there was much more choice which was great.

All in all, I found it a really good service - so much so, that I'm now seriously considering getting one big online order each month and only stocking up on fresh items from the local shops!:D

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  • I have used Tesco for home delivery a few times and find them really good, the driver will bring the shopping into the shopping or leave it at the door depends on what I want. They are always cheerful and helpful and I think so much better than ASDA for home delivery. But this will change from area to area.

Yes it happens pretty much as you described, think of it as your in the store and your picking the shopping you want, you pack the shopping, you pay, bring it home and unpack. only difference is someone else is paid to pick your shopping and pack it and delivered to you by the driver.

Be aware that the price quoted is only a 'guide'! Moreover, when checking any 'special offers' make sure the expiry date is after your delivery date, as it is the price and offer of the delivery date that counts.
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

Hi, you can amend your order after you've paid for it until something like 12 hours before delivery.... This is useful if you do your order a few days before delivery as you can add things you've forgotten. All of my drivers have always carried the shop in to the kitchen for me when I ask. After I had my 2nd child (c section) I asked them to help me unpack the stuff from the crates as well.
