That's not good news is it :(

Fingers crossed that you wow them with your capabilities and don't need to look for another job.

In the meantime good luck with the debt busting, savings and paying off the loan in double quick time. :T

Honestly? The available jobs I don't have the skills/experience to do, certainly not compared with the amount of applicants they're going to have, so I am trying to be realistic about my prospects. I will have the loan under £900 by payday on Tuesday, which is also our bonus day, so I'm going to crunch some numbers and see if I can repay it in full this month, using the tax rebate money as well. This should be possible as I have a loan payment due shortly after I get paid.

Once that's done it's save, save, save :D

Have now paid the tax rebate into my loan, leaving a balance of just over £500. I'll have an interest penalty to pay for clearing it early, but I'm happy to do that, so will likely be clearing it in full on Thursday as by then my monthly payment will have hit the account.
  • Ok, so the potential prospect of losing your job is never great. You might get through, you never know.

But, you hate your job anyway so maybe this is an good opportunity for you. You know you can live on a budget, how much of a pay drop could you still live on? The job market isn't great, but living in the city I think you will have better job opportunities than living further out?

And I'll shut up now before I potentially p you off! :D

    Hi ff,

So sorry to hear of the redundancies looming - hopefully you will get through but i know with the worry of job losses its never a pleasant atmosphere to work in either - chocolate is very understandable x

It sounds like you are doing all the right things - looking at potential jobs and also reducing outgoings by paying off the car loan.

Really hope things work out for you x

I am a great believer in the fact that some of the best decisions in life are those that are made for you.....and that can initially feel as though they are the last thing in the world you can deal with.

But, you seem to have your positive head on you - your financial situation is not nearly as bad as it has been in the past, you have given yourself the tools to deal with such things in a far better way than you might have done before.

And things will be good.....and in the meantime, while they are getting good, I will join you in the chocolate-fest :o xx

I have and man, is it hard!!!! I found it easier to give up smoking

How frustrating having to go through the job worry again. However, I do agree with Hypno and Psycho. Maybe now is the time to move on and found something that makes you happy. I know nobody wants a job loss to be forced on them, but I am sure you will turn it into something positive.

Will there be an impact on your mortgage deal should you lose your job? I know you said before there were benefits due to being an employee.

Enjoy some extra chocolate for me :D
One step at a time ;)

Same here Fresian - I've got the experience but not the qualifications and looking around everyone is now asking for Degrees for my line of work ...... which is ridiculous.

One of the girls I work with saw a job advertised at a Uni that was identical to one she used to do at another Uni and got rejected as she didn't meet the min quals .... she'd done the job for nearly 20 years:mad:

I think it's a ploy to try to cut down the number of applicants.

We're getting really highly qualified, experienced people (eg teachers, solicitors etc) applying for jobs with no quals needed (eg classroom assistants, admin posts etc) .... I know people need jobs but it means it's even harder for those without quals (who've been doing these particular jobs for years without problem) to get work.

Yup, things have been going on here which is why I haven't been in touch about coffee, will PM you after Fat Club tonight.

I think that this could be a positive for me - Mr F thinks I should open a craft shop :D

PS - Hopeful - I have also given up smoking and it wasn't as sodding hard as this...!
