Don't know the exact cost but approximately £3. Worth it for the seeds alone and the magazine and even more so if you know you can get the compost.0

Hi,
Looking at some cucumber plants at the weekend and it stated on the label to pot them into hummus rich compost.
Anyone know about this/or what to use/make of compost?
I thought about growing them in an open ended bucket this year instead of a grow bag, this would allow me to put one plant in each corner of my green house.
Anyone else do this?
Cheers

The hummous rich com[ost just means good, rich compost with loads of nutirients. A good grow bag compost and, once plants are established, feed weekly with organic tomato food or comfrey. Anything that is high in nitrogen. You can mix in comfrey leaves when planting up. The open ended buckets will work just fine. Make sure that there are places for the plants to trail over. My 2 plants last year took over the roof of my 15' long greenhouse!
Keep them separate from your tomatos as they can cross red spider mite and cucumber mosaic virus around. It's easy to control so not too much of a problem if you keep your eye on the plants. It appears as a silvery mildew/powder on the leaves. Once you see it just take the leaf off and burn it.

Hi
Does anyone know of any offers on compost at the moment as I have lots of veggie seedlings that will need potting up over then next couple of weeks and 7 containers with potatoes that will need earthing up to? I have checked the Aldi/Netto/Lidl websites and the only thing that will be on offer is soil enhancer. I am in South London, Thanks in advance :A

Firespire has just told us in another thread that Lidl are doing grow bags for 89p each, next week I think. The compost in them are just as good as the more expensive bags you buy.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Thanks Jayar
