  • Been watching Xfactor too...something seems to be lacking this year but not sure what. Such a drab song too & surprised that they used a Damian Rice song actually....maybe I`m just getting old & grumpy LOL.

Evening guys from a wet and windy Fenland

Uppdate on Mr 3Dogs - I rang the surgery to request a 'phone appointment' and doc rang back at 4 pm. As Mr 3dogs is just the same, he said that stronger meds required so left a prescription for m0rphine for me to collect, with instructions to ring in again on Wednesday. So, when I got back after taking Linda to the hospital, I drove into town and picked up his meds and then called at Morries for some shopping on the way home. He wasn't given clear instructions for use, but label says 5 - 10 ml at 4 hourly intervals pm so we are taking this to mean he takes it afternoon, evening & during night. Doc said not to take 2 x pain-killers at same time, so taking this to mean he takes full normal meds in morning, but just m0rphone rest of day. Anyway, he had the normal 2 lots of pain-killers and d!azapan with evening meal and has just gone to bed taking 1 x 5 ml spoonful of the m0rphine. He will take another spoonful during the night if he needs it, and we shall see how he goes with that

Now, an update on Linda - we got to the hospital 5 minutes before her appointment at 1 pm and went to the ward stated on the letter. The receptionist there seemed to ignor what Linda was saying and just said 'you've come too far. Spinal Assessment? Back up the corridor, small waiting room on the right'. We heard the assessment part and assumed she was right so sat in that waiting room for 45 minutes and then went back to ask again to be told that 2 doctors had been along twice asking is she had arrived and that they were in the trauma room, whereas Linda's letter said the conference was in the seminar room, which was almost opposite the waiting room we'd been in   We were taken along there and the room was in darkness as they'd been looking at x-rays and discussing them. The room was full with her specialist, her surgeon, several other surgeons and masses of student docs/surgeons. They asked her to try to stand to show the problems she was having and to show them her knee. Then they asked her a few questions, including which she would prefer - to have the leg fused and have a straight leg she could not bend but with only discomfort but no pain, or to have leg amputated above the knee and prosthetic leg to allow her to walk/stand/etc. She told them in no uncertain lerms that, as long as there was another choice, she was not having her leg off, so they discussed fusing the leg, but also suggested that they could seek further knowledge/experience from surgeons in larger hospitals over a wider area, which she and I thought might be fruitful, so this is what is happening now. It may be that some surgeon/s have dealt with similar problem at another hospital and may be able to suiggest another course of action, which may give her greater freedom of movement. They are going to get this sorted in the New Year so shouldn't delay things too much but it will allow her time to arrange her infusion for her rhuematoid arthritis in the New Year, before any action is taken on her knee.

poor Linda :( why does the hospital get it so wrong :(

at least when she finally got her conference, they actually listened to her. Hope she does get something extra so she does not have to have just a straight leg but some kind of flexibility.

It was such a shame that we missed the initial discussion as would have loved to hear how they had explained how it had happened and just what is wrong, as well as seeing the x-rays :(:(

And an update on Mam - she hasn't been too bad lately but my Sister had complained quite strongly that, after getting her up and into her chair the other day, they hadn't done it since. So they had her in her chair today and she was fine. She had been shouting after they got her back into her bed, but it is so painful and frightening to her to be lifted about, so that is quite understandable. She was however fine by the time my Sister got there at teatime, and say that they will do it again tomorrow :j
