Hi Susan, just popping on to say you and Alan are in my thoughts, your post from yesterday has bought a lump to my throat, which is terribly selfish given what you are both coping so well with. You're both an inspiration to us all, the number of people posting on here is testament to that. Love to you both xxFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I came home so tired today that I thought I would be in bed well before now, in fact I told Kit & Steve when speaking to them before that I'd be in bed by 10, but ............. here I am
When I rang the hospital this morning to see how Alan had been overnight, I was told that he had got very restless and had fallen out of bed, though he doesn't seem to have hurt himself. They had not been told by KLynn that he's been like this and had been very settled up until then. Anyway, they moved his bed against the wall with the side guards up, put a padded mat on the floor in case he did it again and put a pressure sensor under his back wwhich wwould trigger an alarm with a nurse if he lifted himself up or slid down the bed
When I got there he was lying almost flat and breathing heavily. He did react to me arriving though and I got a kiss whenever I wanted one and an 'I love you' back to each time I told him the sameI sat him up to sip some juice just a little at a time but he didn't want any lunch - he did however have 2 little pots of ice cream and enjoyed those. The staff explained what had happened and what they were trying to do now. They were adjusting the meds in his syringe pump to find a balance where he had no pain, was relaxed and not trying to get up, and, if possible, as aware of things going on as they could make him. He did try a couple of times to get himself up early on but, after some more adjustment, seemed to settle better
I stayed with him and kept raising him up to have a feww sips of squash, then lowering his head again, for comfort. He kept saying he was red hot and throwing the blankets back, but one of the Nurses brought in a large standing fan and that cooled him down. Mind you, he was freezing cold to touch before that, even when he was saying he was red hot, but Kit tells me now that the liver regulates body temperature as well as the brain. Oddly enough, his skin felt like this over the weekend when he was so ill and halucinating. Even his lips were icy cold today when I kised him
I only asked for ice cream for him at 5pm as I didn't think he could eat anything solid, nor could his system digest it, so he had one pot of ice cream plus the other pot of HD ice cream that Kit left on Saturday for him, and he enjoyed that but didn't want any more. In giving him tiny sips of the squash, he managed to drink about 3 beakers of fluid, plus the ice cream of coure, so that is something
Hi mate Merv came after lunch and stayed with me for an hour, and then Mr & Mrs Cafe came about 4pm for 3/4 of an hour. He recognissed them and said hello, very quietly, and responded to them being there, and said 'Bye mate thanks for coming' and 'Bye Shaun Bye Helen thanks for coming' though you could bearly hear him. He is very weak and/or very doped up, but as long as he is free of pain and aware of people being there, that is good
I left at 6.15 as I had a letter to drop in at the doctors' surgery regarding his pension to be signed by his GP, and got home about 6.20pm. I got changed into my pj's straight away, put Alan's couple of t-shirts in to wash, and then just sat in my chair for half an hour before doing anything else, as I as exhausted. I got a frozen pizza out of the freezer and put it in to cook and when I put that out and I had just started eating it, my brother rang and then my sister and then I made some texts and then Kit & Steve rang. My brother is coming down to visit on Thursday till Saturday and will book his train travel tomorrow. When talking to Kit & Steve, and they were arranging with me about them coming up and doing my decorating over a couple of weekends, I was in tears at having such good friends:A
I sorted out the flowers I got yesterday at the car boot/market, together with the one's a dear friend gave me there too, bless her. I find it very relaxing doing my flowers into vases - I won't say arranging flowers as I am not that good, but I do like to sort them nicely. So I now have 2 lots in the sitting room, one in the hall and one in the bedroom - I do love flowers in the house and Alan always brought me some home from the car boot every Sunday
I rang the kennels this afternoon from the hospital, when our mate was there to ask them to keep the doggies for longer. They were already booked in for our holiday to Devonso they will now stay in right through. The owner of the kennels was in tears as I updated her about Alan and said that she and her hubbie are there for us both anytime we need them, which was lovely
I have to drop off more food for them but she said come anytime and, if the gate is closed, just wait there and they will come out to me for it
I am off to get my 2nd lot of washing out and hang it up and then off to bed so good night everyone and thanks again for all your good wishes. I could feel the swell of love coming this way as Andy, Steve and Kit drove up to visit and I almost have bruises with all the virtual hugs along with the ones brought by the guys. I love you all

It's nice to see you posting again Susan, and to hear that you are starting to get some rest and that your brother will be arriving soon.
I'm glad also that your friends visit was so enjoyable and that they will be coming back soon to help you decorate th house.
It's good to hear that Alan is still relatively pain free and enjoying his ice cream and a few smiles. My dad had the little pots of ice cream when he was in hospital and he would always offer them to me and I can agree with Alan, they are really nice
Hugs and love to you both, as always you are in my thoughts and prayers xxA clinically depressed person with a sleep condition. I'm in my own little world, but it's ok the people like me here
Any offence is not intentional, I'm really quite harmless0 -
My thoughts are with you both as always. Cherish every moment, not that you need me to tell you that. Good to hear your brother is coming down. Hope today will give you more memories.
xxSomething unexpected happened which made me smile and still continues to make me smile.
