Hi,

We are moving home so I am looking for cheap gas and electricity, N Power seems to be coming up cheapest, doesn anyone have any experience of them?

Is their customer service any good? Is it a UK based call centre?

Thanks

  • Hi there.

I had a terrible time with n power, below is my post from the complaint letter success forum which explains the problems:

I have had quite a bit of trouble from npower over the past 6 months.
They had mistakely put me on some sort of regular payment scheme when I moved house and even though I was paying my bills within days of receiving them they were sending me quite nasty letters saying they would be refering me to their debt collection people for not making regular payments (even though I had never agreed to do this.)

Anyway, I wrote a letter of complaint last quarter and received a £20 credit on my account and a letter apologising for there error assuring me it had all been sorted out. Well this quarter - a letter arrives saying yet again they are going to refer me to the debt collection agency for not making regular payments, (I had again paid my bill within days of receiving it.) I wrote another letter and hey presto - received a CHEQUE for £50!!

I seem to be on a bit of a money spinner but I thought I would save myself any future hassle and switched to Powergen last week (using the MSE link earning £12.50 cashback) and in the post today received 3 diff types of energy saving light bulbs and a yr's supply of carbon monoxide detectors from Powergen. Here's to a long and happy relationship!

I am now with Powergen and I can't praise them highly enough.

Been with npower a few years now & had no problems. The £60 a year for paying by direct debit is very handy. They are quick to increase or decrease payments so I have never had a huge debt or credit. I wont be moving any time soon !
    NEVER ASSUME!

The latest reports from Ofgem indicate that npower are better than the industry average. Sadly, I've yet to experience this myself and am writing yet another complaint letter to them at the moment.

The call centre have always been helpful & friendly, but if it needs to go to another department - e.g. meter reading - it's a different story (in my experience). I'm not at all surprised at queen_d's tale above.

    :confused:Mmmmm. Npower

I currently have a moral dilemma here. I left them in August last year and switched to edf. Since then i have been trying to get my final bill settled from them (even though I have had 2 bills from edf). I had to get energywatch involved (who were very helpful) as npower kept saying they had not received notification from edf of the meter reading, even though edf assured me they had sent it on numerous occasions.

I received my final bill today (which actually still says it needs the reading confirming), but a telephone message from them have told me the money is being transferred back to my account.

The dilemma? The bill shows £493 to be repaid, whilst on my reckoning, they only owe me £200. Should i spill the beans or should i put the extra to one side until they ask for it back?

i have signed to n power as they are gonna charge me£60 a month powergen are charging me £66 and wanna put it up to £70 a month
i will be debt free, i will
  • Thats fine, as long as the npwer charge is realistic, you do not want to be landed with a huge bill as you havent been paying enough monthly.

You need to find out how much electrictiy/gas you have used over the year and use a comparison site for total cost, divide that by 12 and you should be covered!!!!
  • hi iv been with n power 4 ages never had any probs cs always good
