Thanks for your reply George and Wow what a price...

Do you know what boiler? Kw? and type of rads you costed? I think anything under a 38Kw boiler may not be good enough... but thats only from net research.

Do you need a trade account to use screwfix?

There is a vast difference in the price of boilers, £399- £1200, the same goes for rads, pumps and valves etc.
So dont be fooled by Screwfix prices, you need to price like for like.

Example I can buy Thermostatic rad valves at prices from £3.99- £13.99, but would never buy the £3.99 ones as they are crap and dont use them, and dont want ear ache from customers in 18mths saying them valves you put in are knocking and leaking! What are going to do?
The same goes for boilers etc.

You only get what you pay for.

Get 2 or 3 quotes and ask them to itemise the boiler, valves they are going to use, and then you can compare.
  • £856.99 for a Baxi Duo-tec Combi Boiler 33 HE which was 33KW.

Screwfix is open to the public and great for many things.

This site helps you calculate the radiators that you need.

    Being mid-terraced will help.

    EDIT to add:
Baxi are a respectable brand IMO and Danfoss TRVs at £8.39 each are more than adequate - again IMO. I'm an engineer and not a plumber so can onkly speak from personal experience.

Standard rads and a curved chrome towel rail for the bathroom.

    :)

Great advice from both and would like to mention I am a firm follower of the 'you get what you pay for' mentality and will definately be taking in both views. Cant believe how helpful everyone has been upto now... so glad I decided to join this site this morning.

Will be looking into the rad estimator... looks like a nice piece of kit.

    :T

With regards to the boiler on screwfix that george mentioned... that is the one I was looking at... would this be sufficent plumb1?

You will need to calculate the heat and hot water reqment you need for your home, then you can choose the correct size of the boiler, as you dont want to oversize the boiler, unless you are planing the add to the building in the future.

As for the Baxi, it a matter of choice, i prefer Worcester or Valiant
