I have a really kind plumber who plays very fair with me when I have a problem and now I want to return the favour with your help.
He has a baby Dell which won't boot up.
There is nothing on it that matters if it gets wiped but I don't know what operating system is installed even.
It is an Inspiron mini 10, model no. 1011-8936.
When you try to power up you get F2 Setup and F12 Boot options on screen with the DELL logo then just a cursor top left saying 'a disk read error occurred.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
When I do that, the whole cycle repeats.
Can anyone offer me any help on if there is anything I can do with this?
Many thanks.:o

I can get into F12 and am currently running the diagnostics.
Oh now it gives me options to do an Express Test, an Extended Test, a Custom Test or a Symptom Tree.
Until I get other advice here I am starting the Extended test.
All advice most welcome.:o0 -
Have now got the error message :
OFOO:1344
Msg Disk- Block 83669743: Cant read, replace disk.
And then it asks me if I want to continue testing?

Sounds unlikely you'd be able to do a re-install as it's telling you that the drive is kippered0

Do you have an external optical drive at hand?
If so, you should run chkdsk from the Recovery Console0 -

If no CD drive, you can try it via USB. Video Guide0
