Hi All
Just wondered if anyone had ever been to a wedding or got married at Miskin Manor near Llantrisant in south wales before and if they had any comments to make..
Have provisionally booked there for June 20th 2008 and obviously would be great for any feedback about the Manor..
Looks really nice when went we went for a viewing a few days ago!
Hoping to book a valentines meal for us both to try the food out...

Ive not been to a wedding there but my sister has ,3 times
she said its lovely
Enjoy your valentines meal0 -
I went there for dinner after I graduated and it was superb.
I also went to a wedding there about four years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've been to a few weddings in hotels which I thought were terrible. The Copthorne at Culver being an example. As a rule I tend not to like weddings in hotels but there are exceptions, Egerton Grey and Miskin Manor being two.0 -

you cannot really compare these ! the latter 2 are in a different league to the Copthorne chain !0 -

Indeed. In terms of price for a top end room, they would appear to be a league below. (Much probably depends when you go and what sort of room you take though.) I bet you would find that as far as wedding costs go there's not all that much between the three.
I remember that when the Copthorne first opened they were supposed to have a fabulous chef in the kitchen. A friend of mine is a food critic and was sent there to check it out. It was certainly very expensive at that time and was even being marketed as being quite exclusive. My friend considered her meal to be the most overpriced she had ever eaten.
I also went to a wedding in the (five star) St David's hotel quite recently. It was fantastic food but I have to say I wouldn't have chosen it as a venue.
You're right though, EG and MM are certainly a different type of hotel to the Cop, so I guess you can't really compare them.
As far as opinions for the OP go, I think we all probably agree that MM gets the thumbs up.0 -
I went to my sister's wedding there recently (Miskin Manor), the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The food was delightful and it was a very nice setting. One critcism I did have was that the drinks were dreadfully overpriced and to get the kiddies (4) of them drinks and ourselves was rather expensive.
For the children they had chicken nuggets and chips whilst our food was delicious.
As for Egerton Grey - I booked a night in the honeymoon suite for a surprise for my OH on our wedding anniversary. There was champagne on arrival and the food was excellent.
If I had to choose I would go for MM - wishing you both all the best for the future

We looked at the MM when we were looking about 3 years ago as we'd heard good things about it - lovely setting but the decor was just a touch too gothic for me! (Stuffed animals on the walls really aren't my cuppa tea).
Anyhoo, we ended up doing the deed at De Courceys in Pentyrch. Absolutely the right place for us, and they couldn't have been more accommodating.
Now live not too far from MM.
Whatever you choose, have a wonderful time!

All seems positive then for MM... we didnt really like the ceremony room as looked to much like a hall but have seen further pictures of the hall done up with chair covers an flowers an looks really nice.
Regarding the drink prices.. i thought they were fairly cheap at £2.60 - £3 a pint.. or ave i been mis informed???0 -

This is how we want the ceremony to look.. chair covers are expensive to rent though ;-(0 -
we have been to two weddings there - the room with the vaulted ceiling was a bit to crushed and the marquee attached was just empty all night. The other one was in the large room that overlooked the garden to the side of the hotel and it was lovely - food excellent and really relaxed atmosphere. The drinks were SO overpriced it was criminal!!0
