Looking for some advice on the supply of services and goods act regarding a hairdresser.
From what ive read if i take the route below to get hair fixed somewhere else and write to the salon who messed it up to reimburse me as explained below, what happens if they fail to reimburse me, what do i need to do then? Thanks for any advice
Uncooperative Hairdressers
If the stylist has quite obviously done a terrible job, snipped your ear, dyed your hair a hideous colour or similar, but they won't do anything about it, you could use the Supply of Goods and Services Act to get compensation. You're only entitled to claim for actual financial loss, and in this case it would be the cost of getting your hair fixed by another salon. If you do go down this route, don't just go straight to another hairdresser before you speak to the stylist that messed your style up. If they refuse to rectify the mistakes (and it's reasonable to insist on a different stylist if you've lost confidence in the original one) you should tell them that you will be getting the job put right elsewhere and claiming the cost back.If you need to go to another salon, tell the new stylist what happened, and ask them to give you their comments - in writing if possible. Write to the original hairdresser with a copy of the receipt and any comments, and give them 14 days to reimburse you.

Send 'Letter before action'
then after say 14 days, go to moneyclaim.gov to file a claim (the fee is automatically added to the claim).
If you have a genuine case it's likely they will settle before a hearing (which incurs another fee).
If you get this far and win the case there are a few enforement options (if they are still playing hardball that is).
Thats a general guide anyway, without knowing any specifics of your case.0 -
Bit of background info(sorry for the essay)...got a deal through a groupon offer(i know i know) ... cut colour and finish. had skin test done two days ago everything was fine, now im really nervous when it comes to trusting people with my hair as its down my back but i decided to treat myself as have felt a bit crappy recently and thought it would cheer me up.
Stylist who did my hair when she was combing and brushing my hair it was more like tourture, after she had put dye on waited and rinsed it off and i sat back in chair i explained that im losing a bit of hair atm and need to be quite gentle.
it was quite obvious that i was uncomfortable when she was doing it as she managed to get it all knotted and then tried using a round bristle hairbrush which she got stuck in my hair...When she finally got the knots out using a paddle brush she cut my hair, i didnt feel like i could trust her after that so i went for the 'safe option' a couple of inches off and a little shorter at the front to frame my face ...haircut wasnt drastically bad but i could have done a better job myself to be honest (i have worked in a hairdressers when i was younger and have done my own hair for the past 7/8 years but i have no formal qualifications for it ) it doesnt look straight though its more like a chopped into finish at the back
got home and looked in mirror and she has got dye all around my hairline(understandable to a degree), on my forehead and on my earits dyed the tiny hairs on my forehead (ive took pictures). didnt realise when i was there as when she was cutting it my hair was covering it but its not unnoticable so she must have known ... ive tied my hair up and it looks horrendous, i know nobodys perfect but surely it shouldnt be like this ...nobody ever left the salon looking like this where i worked....
well went to speak to them today and on the way there i went into another salon for a professional opinion, the woman who i spoke to said the other salon should not have let me leave with residue on my forehead and ears and that the colour was not right and hadnt took as it hadnt been worked through my hair properally, the cut is uneven at the back on the ends, and it hasnt been blended in properaly to frame my face, after this i felt a bit better as i didnt feel like i was over-reacting.
Went into salon where had it done and the spoke to the manager politely and she said no refund as it says in fine print that they do not offer a refund for this offer and that another stylist will re do the cut (not the colour) she said that the dye does that to everyones head and i said that yes it can happen to an extent but a professional would take care around those areas to prevent this from happening instead of dying my facial hair and she said there was 'nothing wrong with the cut, just a bit uneven' i explained that i do not feel comfortable having it done there again and she said speak to groupon about getting my money back.(basically fobbing me off)
I dont know where i stand though as im kicking myself for not saying anything when i was there but i didnt see the mess they had made to my face until i got home (i have an anxiety disorder so i dont cope very well in situations like that)
I doubt groupon will be very helpfull as i recieved 'the offer' just not how it should have been.
Thanks0 -
I think you are overreacting. A bit of hairdye can get on your skin, no big deal. The 'tiny hairs on your forehead' will fade in a few days, if they don't colour them you'll end up with a line of roots around your head. Is there anything else wrong with the colour? With regard to the cut, they have offered to even it out. What more do you expect?0

if its any help, i always get dye on my neck and ears when i do mine at home. A good exfoliator scrubbed on helps me remove it or tcp on cotton wool works a treat. Might be worth a try0

Maybe if the whole hairline was done, it is as if they zig-zagged along my hair line patches of where it hasnt been worked in and patches of where its been put too far over , i resemble a gorrilla Also The colour is patchy as mentioned it was not 'worked in' properally and was left to take incorrectly. A proffesional would have taken the care not to get the dye everywhere and not to pull clumps out of my hair and hurt my scalp despite me saying that how they were detangling it was painful. I got advice from a reputable hairdresser and they agree with meSupply of Goods and Services Act 1982
Requires the trader to use reasonable care and skill and says that any materials or goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. It also says that, unless a specific date is agreed for a service to be provided, it must be carried out within a reasonable time.

Thanks for the reply, i know how to get it off my skin im just annoyed that she left residue of it around my face due to not rinsing it thoroughly which has caused irritation to my skin and let me leave the salon like it. Thanks for the tip though0 -
They offered to put the cut right with another stylist, your claim fails as you have refused them the right to put it right. The dye will wash off, so there is no financial loss to claim for.0

the woman ripped clumps out of my hair attempting to detangle it, im still deciding whether to go back to have the cut corrected by another stylist but that doesnt fix the dye not being on parts of my hair their approach to was really unprofessional and rude when i was being polite, i didnt go in all guns blazing as im not that sort of person (yes they have offered to cut it again which is a bit reasonable). im just looking at what my options are as im worried that if i go back and they mess it up again, they might do a great job but if they dont its me whos at loss not them0 -
