Dyna - half shaft seals leaking...

Anyone on here had problems with Toyota Dyna's having half shaft seals leaking on to the shoes?

Looking at 2006 onwards.

Thanks in advance for the potential feedback :)

Most probably had to scratch their heads trying to recall cars with half-shafts! But if your van/pick-up is leaking, its normally pretty straightforward to take the drum off, get the half-shaft out and then, with the help of a good motor factor, make up a new paper gasket from blank sheet (put the sheet against the hub and tap the shape out with hammer), trim it up and reassemble.

Check your diff breather is not blocked up, if it is the pressure build up forces the oil past the seals.

    Thanks Colino and Esmerobbo

The breather is replaced regularly on our Dyna's - but the seals keep leaking and contaminating the shoes. Wondering if this is a common problem or not.......... or a design fault??

Have you had the oil seals changed? They usually come as part of the wheel bearing on the hub end of a halfshaft so it might indicate a problem with the bearing.

I've heard of a Panhard Dyna (strange French car from 1950s, rather large but only 850cc 2cyl engine), but not a Toyota Dyna.

Assuming you have more then one is it across different vehicles or one or two in particular? If its across a fleet it would seem a design fault if its just one or two it maybe a problem with the the bearings or the seal seating area of the halfshaft.

    Are you using genuine replacements?

We are talking about half a dozen or so. They have been replaced but they leak again. Some have been replaced under warranty - and then leak again after the warranty has run out

Trying to find out if others have had the same problem too or it's just our hard luck! Either way, its a nightmare and a costly one.

And yes, all parts replaced are genuine.
