Insurance cannot be transferred to another person.

The fact that HSBC are auto-renewing the policy means that it is still active.

This either means that his daughter is still using the policy (either with the same car or with a new car) or she has sold the car as you explain but has failed to cancel the insurance.

The best option is to try and talk to her to identify if she is using it still, if shes not try and get her to phone up and sort out the mess. If that dosen't work put everything in writing to HSBC explaining that you do not authorise the use of your credit card for any further payments connected to the policy and that they should chase the policy holder for payment/updated payment details.
