Help needed - BT Infinity or Sky?

Can't comment on BT infinity.
I'm on Sky BB unlimited, and recently moved the talk and line rental to them as well.
I've had Sky broadband since the service was launched in my area.
Customer service has improved greatly over the last couple of years, you can usually get through in a couple of rings.
Occasionally you do get the Indian call centre but are referred back to the UK for anything very technical
The line from the exchange is around 3Km (45db), and I get around an 8Mbps sync speed.
I paid 12month line rental up front (£119.40), the cost of BB Unlimited and Talk Freetime is £7.50/month.
Without a Sky TV sub that increses to £10/month.
This is the part that concerns me! I've always had my phone & line rental with BT & if there was a problem with the line with another provider I've heard it can be difficult to resolve.
I'm tempted by the Sky deal, partly because there are not many unlimited broadband deals around these days - mine used to be until TT took over Tiscali & restricted it to 40GB per month

You are not comparing remotely similar products. If you need more than the indicated ADSL2+ speeds of up to 11MBps, then go for FTTC (But I wouldn't get it via BT, and if you do, you'll need the more expensive options, which is vastly more costly than ADSL).
Wi-fi is not a problem, as you already have a connection faster than anything FTTC can deliver to your router.
Personally I'd opt for O2 LLU at 11MBps, but only you can decide.
I know
And I know it's difficult to compare the two but I guess I'm trying to find out if I moved my line & bb to Sky would I be jumping out of the frying pan & into the fire, so to speak.
According to SamKnows my exchange will be upgrading to ADSL2+ by end Oct 2011.
I think I'll pass on BT infinity for now which means it's either 02 or Sky.

If your exchange has Sky LLU, then what BT are doing upgrade wise is irrelevant.
If you have a problem with the line you would have to phone Sky who would arrange for BT Openreach to sort the line out. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Sky is not unlimited, it is subject to an FUP like every other provider.
All but the cheapest 02 tariff is also unlimited (cheapest is a 20GB cap).
And, absurdly, the cheaper Infinity package is a 40GB cap.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Im almost 100 percent sure sky have a truly unlimited package, I have passed about 350-400gb a month for the past 3 months and not had any letters or warning about my usage. Sky scrapped there FUP for some packages in 2008.0 -

A BT line doesn't have to be with BT. Apart from LLU customers, all BT lines are provided by BT Wholesale, and other providers will resell them. BT Retail who yolu pay line rental to if you are a BT customer is a completely different company so there is no difference in having a BT line with BT retail or with another provider when resolving issues.
You may even get better service as it's a nightmare to get through to BT!0 -
So if I moved my BB from Talk Talk to Sky & my phone line from BT to Sky, would I be without either of these services during the changeover? I appreciate when you switch ISP's there is usually a few hours without BB, but would the switch be almost instant or would I be without a phone line & broadband for several days/weeks?
And I've heard that sometimes Sky say there isn't enough capacity at the exchange - does anyone how I can find out about this?

Forget it! I spoke to Sky in the end who told me that as I'm moving my line from BT there shouldn't be any "downtime", he said if I was moving from another LLU supplier it might cause a delay but not in my case. O2 also told me the same thing.
