Videography!

  • In my experience working in the music and broadcast industry, you get what you pay for, no decent videographer or photographer are going to have prices that cheap! Why on earth would they?

The best photographers and videographers in the world all charge 3 grand plus, 3 grand being the bare minimum, its all relative. But its a completely different ball game, you are paying for a huge talent, and a lot of extra work that goes into their work that you don't get with the cheap ones, they run them as a bespoke creative service where you are going to receive something truely special, whereas the cheap ones run them more like a factory line business.

Watch out for anyone offering a bargain, it speaks volumes!

Well of course you get what you pay for, and obviously you are more likely to get better quality from a £3000 videographer than a £600. But not guaranteed.

I disagree that £1200 automatically makes for a better product than £600 - it doesn't really work that way. Particularly if what you get at £1.2k isn't what you want!

My sister paid 1200 for a Videographer/Photographer. Sounds like a bargain I know. What she ended up with was a video where most of the shots were not even in focus and an incredibly cheap wedding album that you can buy in boots/argos for 10 quid and develop the pictures for free on some websites. The front cover of the album is a printed onto glossy card picture and stuck on with pritt stick. Always ask for a link to their showreel and write a list of all the questions you want to know and ask them if there is anything else you should know, and also to send a copy of a written contractual agreement (most important apart from their skills). On another note, if you have a close relative or friend who has a digital slr with a HD video recording option that looks good enough, you have yourself a free photographer/videographer. You will save money and yourself from heartache from spending money on what is below average quality
  • I agree with Cloud, if they are that cheap, there is a reason for it, they need the work, people who are expensive don't need the work, they are in demand.

Now I'm not saying just because its expensive means it will be amazing but its certainly reassuring, and the one that was posted certainly is beautiful.

Spoony, he loves the idea too! To be honest it wasn't something either of us had put much thought into until I saw the site and fell in love with it. The guy is also lovely too and I think his work is amazing.

I am aware it is a lot of money though, so it will be about weighing up the budget and seeing if it fits in. We have been offered some help towards the wedding which we didn't previously have so it might be a treat for both of us. We will see! Thanks :)

Neilcrook any links would be great, I'm always happy to do some more wedding shopping around :)

Bungenstein I have to agree with you, whilst I know I can get cheaper, the style and quality of his filming makes me think it would be worth every penny.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We had a videographer at our wedding and I'm so pleased we did. Like other posters have said - he captured moments that I otherwise would have missed out on. And it's so lovely to be able to look back on. Now that we have children I am pleased they will be able to watch it when they are a bit older.

We were very lucky though and got ours for free! I was using the forum (similar to this) on the confetti.co.uk/com? website whilst planning our wedding - a really lovely group of people all planning their big day, and a chap put an ad on there saying that he was starting up his own videography company and he would come and film the wedding and give you three copies of the finished dvd, in exchange for being able to use the footage on his website and at wedding fayres.
  • Hey Folks.

I'm getting married next May, in East Sussex & am on the look out for a photographer &/or videographer. Being on a bit of a budget (aren't we all!), been looking for the best deal.

    Anywho's... Found this chap: eagle-eye-photography.com

Doing a combined video/photo package for £889 + travel (some other stuff is extra but still comes under what we were expecting).

Has anyone here had any experience with this company?
Their site, portfolio & testimonials all look good but then then you don't always see the disasters or hear from the unhappy customers.
I know you usually get what you pay for but there are a lot of very expensive cowboys out there too.

Does anyone have any other recommendations (don't really want a video shot by Aunt Ethel of her feet).

    Thanks in advance
  • Dolly i've sent you a pm with the links as don't want to be seen as advertising - you'll understand exactly what i mean when you look at the websites :)
