i dont like his website (to me that speaks a lot)
his price is £1200 (STARTING FROM!)

  • To expand on my previous post, I think I would have made sure a family member had a camcorder rather than paying someone professional to do it.....

Thanks for the advice ladies, appreciated.

I definitely don't want a family member to do it, mainly because even if they would want to (which I'm sure they would) I just want my family and friends to relax and enjoy the day! I don't want someone special to me watching my wedding through a lens. Plus they're doing me so many favours already! lol

Sammy I love the cinematography style, and for that style of videoing that is around the average price. If I just wanted the video I probably would go for a student or alternatively invite another less close friend to the wedding that I wouldn't mind recording! I am however planning to do lots of research and lots more discussing with H2B before I make any certain plans :o

so even though his videos are amazing you wouldn't book him because you don't like his website? that doesn't make any sense

i didn't say his videos are amazing- and to me a website is a way of selling yourself/your service- and if i dont like it- combined with the price and some other factors- then no i wouldnt book someone

  • ah sorry I misunderstood :), videographers all have different styles and products and I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a wedding film.

for me all that matters is the style and quality, I'd rather have a stylish 20 minute film than an hour long documentary style film, but thats just my taste.
  • Dolly, what does your OH think about getting a videographer? I don't think you've mentioned that yet.

I know that I would love one (tho to be honest I love watching my parents video which was filmed by a relative and I love the fact that it has little snippets) but to me, it is very expensive and I cannot justify it to my OH, who doesn't want one because of the "waste of money."

Write down a list of pros and cons... What else could you get for £1200? Would that be a huge chunk of your budget? Would you have any help paying for this?

At the end of the day, it's your decision.

£1200 for so few minutes does seem a lot.

We've compromised with our photography by allowing a recent Graduate to do our photos so saving money on that allows us to have a videographer. Something both H2B and I agree on :)

The couple we are looking at using are charginy £600 for the day, 2 people and with 3 dvd's. For that we thought was a good price.

I'd be tempted to look around as I'm sure you could find someone with a better price

  • We have booked one. I had been receiving samples for around three months and was about to pay for one that was amateur when an offer came through on an amazing videographer who was cheap.

Bog standard video which we were going to use gave us a sample which was good but we soon realised you couldn't hear any sound on it so requested a full dvd. The dvd sound was poor quality and you could barely make out the speeches but at £450 we thought we would be able to edit it further ourselves. Literally had the cheque in an envelope to send when Daisychain sent an email offer round for a gentleman offering 50% off for 2011 weddings 25% for first quarter 2012 - he had more of a film background and hadn't done many weddings - he has since done quite a few and popped them on vimeo and we totally changed my mind. Total cost was £670 and he is travelling from yorkshire to us on the day. I can give you the links to both of these so you can see exactly what I mean if you want.

There is always someone out there who will be similar quality and have lower prices so definitely shop around. A similar style videographer came to meet me and his prices started from £900. I'm so glad i didn't take that envelope that day!

  • In my experience working in the music and broadcast industry, you get what you pay for, no decent videographer or photographer are going to have prices that cheap! Why on earth would they?

The best photographers and videographers in the world all charge 3 grand plus, 3 grand being the bare minimum, its all relative. But its a completely different ball game, you are paying for a huge talent, and a lot of extra work that goes into their work that you don't get with the cheap ones, they run them as a bespoke creative service where you are going to receive something truely special, whereas the cheap ones run them more like a factory line business.

Watch out for anyone offering a bargain, it speaks volumes!
