Videography!

I'm still in the very early stages of planning my wedding, so just weighing up all my options really.
To future brides/grooms and especially those who are already married, did you get a video of your wedding or are you planning to?
I know it's an expensive option, but I think I want to capture all those little bits I might miss and don't want to give a guest the job (plus don't want to worry it won't be what I'm after)
Really just wondering how many others have used a videographer? Or is there anyone who didn't have one and regrets it?
Not very MSE at all but I've just found this and I am absolutely in love with it!

I didn't have one and I don't regret it. I hate seeing a video of myself, and even hearing myself talking makes me cringe big style.
My brother and his missus had a video done (not professional) and their kids watch it sometimes - must be nice to see the day Mummy and Daddy got married! That made me wonder if I was doing the right thing, for no more than a minute though!!
I put a video together of photos set to music of the day that I really like so if you were just going to have a clip montage anyway there's no need for a fancy videographer, just a helpful guest filming would be good.0 -
We are getting one done. I hadn't thought about till I saw my SIL2B's one... Stunning and so many little details that I had forgotton not seen. It really is stunning.
But I agree with teh above post, its really up to you. I do think you need to be comfortable with the idea that you are being filmed. But in my mind if they are good, it should be no different than the photographer and with teh excitement of the day - hopefully you will just be so relaxed and excited.

Hi,
I really fancy one if we can afford it. We are getting married in Rhodes & the ones i've seen are lovely so will have to see what the price is. When I mentioned it to my Mum she though it was a total waste of money as she said you would just watch it once & forget about it:( So not sure now will just have to see.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

We're only having a small Wedding so I thought it would be nice to have a vidoe so the relatives who didn't come could still see it.
Plus I've always dreamed of having a string quartet and from stories from other brides know I probably won't get to appreciate the quartet and even remember it so I want a video to watch it all back.
Plus I have a long sweeping staircase to walk down and I want it on video incase I fall down it!:o
As we're having a novice photogrpaher we decided we could afford to splurge on a videographerTurning our clutter to top up our house deposit: £3000/£303.05 we're on our way!0 -

LOL Sharpee! You could send it to You've Been Framed and get £250
I quite like the idea of someone videoing the ceremony, just so that I can relive it, and catch any bits I missed! Plus it would be quite nice to send to anyone who can't make it to the wedding. We have no budget for it, and I don't want it enough to spend hundreds on it anyway, so I might see if I can borrow a camera from someone and ask someone who'll be sitting near the front to do the honours! If it all goes wrong I wouldn't be too upset, but it would be a nice addition.

my OH and his mates make films in their spare time ( it gets him out of my hair) and as a wedding gift from his mates they said they would do a video for the wedding. thanks lads and very MSE however i now fear its turning into a hollywood production. Instead of the 1 camera man with a camcorder i thought it was, it is now 3 camera men with 3 very large camera as they want to get different angles and then put it together in post production. Love the idea of a wedding dvd but will be having a chat with them very soon to scale it down!! i will say though, if they werent doing it, i probably wouldnt have one as it doesnt fuss me either way.Married my amazing hubby on 8th September 2012 :j:j0

Thats one of the reasons we fancy one as a lot of people won't be able to make it to Lindos, including my H2Bs parents because of their age & health
We though those that can't come would like to see it. Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

Me
There are parts of our wedding day that I didn't see (my chief bridesmaid apparently produced a lollypop from the middle of her bouquet as we were walking back down the aisle, for example) and there are certain moments that weren't captured on camera that I'd love to be able to watch back. For example, during my dad's speech, I started crying a little and my nephew came over and gave me his napkin to wipe my eyes. He also stood up and waved when he was mentioned im my dad's speech. Now no one was quick enough to catch either of these on camera and I'd love to be able to watch them over and over. We paid extra for a choir who sang beautifully while we were signing the register. The photos don't capture the sound. But for me, the most important thing is that I'd love to be able to watch my dad walk me down the aisle. That sounds like such a simple thing, but my dad spends a lot of his time in a wheelchair. He refused to use it on our wedding day and the tears really were flowing in the church as he walked me down the aisle. I'd love to be able to see that.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
Thanks for the advice ladies, particularly clearing out my pockets!
I think you've helped me make my decision, I really don't want to miss those little moments! My family recently had a huge party and my dad made an amazing speech (which no-one got on camera) it made me teary and I now can't really remember the little bits.
I'm happy to be filmed, but don't want to give the job to a family member and currently don't know anyone with the right skills lol! So think I might do some investigating!
Thanks

I got a friend to record the speeches on video, so I've got those - and a few other people took amateur video, so I've got a fair bit anyway. You stand a good chance of "little details" being missed, anyway - so I think you're better off trying to write something down after the day to keep - so you can keep the memories, even if you didn't see it.
And I have to say, the couple of videographers I've seen working have been so much more bossy/demanding than usual photographers - really turned me off the idea.0
