Congratulations Slowlyfading and best of luck for the future!! x
Desperate Housewife, I have been trying to find ways of cutting back too. I have been busy concentrating on keeping my food shopping to £400 / month (for 4 of us). I have set this target so that if I come in under this I can transfer the amount saved into my savings. (Saved £20 last month doing this).
I have changed my shopping habits by bulk buying a lot more. If something I used was on offer I would have bought 2, but now I am buying 4- 6, especially things like washing machine liquid, bleach, or jars of things we use with a long shelf life. I have cleaned out a couple of shelves in my cupboard under the stairs, which I am now using as a store cupboard for the excess stuff. Oh and I was given a little deep freezer for may garage which comes in handy for this too!
I am doing a whole lot more home cooking, making sure to use up the things first that are going off. Our food bill used to be £500 - £600 a month so something seems to be working by coming in at £400. :TCurrently debt free (for 4 years) - ISA Savings now £4,050.56Save 12k in 2012 Challenge - £3215.17 / 3000k (Member 159)

Not sure if it's too late to join in.. it probably is, but I'll still take the challenge (even if it's 'unofficially'
). We're saving up as much as possible and this challenge looks like a good one to work towards
Jan was a one-off with near £2k saved, then it was around £800 saved in Feb before just under £1k being saved in March.0 -

So, I've been totally MIA for about a month. I swear I feel like I'm cheating on MSE when I buy things I don't need. So after treating myself to an iPad (I have 2 laptops and a work one - I soooo didn't need this!), I thought I'd punish myself by keeping away from here.
The good news is that somehow I've still managed to keep up with my £1k a month savings. Things will be a bit touch and go for this month's savings but reckon I should still manage it - just need to figure out how to pay the credit card bills...eeeeek!
So, I'm going to promise myself I'll stay around this time and I'm off to update the form just now! x0 -
Well done to you all. It's great encouragement when I read all the sigs and updates.

Keep it going everyone!!!
I had to release some of the savings last monthwhich in my defence was kinda inevitable considering it was car MOT and tax month.
However I was good and listed some stuff on Ebay last weekend and got bids totalling £23.93 :A Got to post it all tomorrow!
It is another free listing weekend this weekend, so go through your cupboards folks and have a good clearout!!!
As for where to put it, well I've opened the AA cash ISA which is paying 3.5% for instant access. There are some places paying better rates but either there is a lot of faff to get them or the institution has poor customer satisfaction ratings, so AA for me. Last year's cash ISA has matured (£181.93 interest) and been transferred to a S&S ISA. This weekend's job is to research appropriate investments. I am thinking something yield focused and not too high risk for this chunk of money.
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.0 -
How's everyone doing? I keep transferring small amounts, but they all add upBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
