No Halifax for Scots

Phoned the Halifax today as my ISA year had finished and was only on 0.5%.
Talked through the options and told her to sign me up for a new ISA.
She then tells me that as its a Halifax account the paperwork has to be signed in England.
It would appear since Lloyds took over they are making it harder for people to get products they use to get.
It would now appear (in savings anyway) if you live in Scotland it is Bank of Scotland only, what happend to HBOS?
Anyone eles had this problem?

I thought Halifax was just a trading name of the Bank of Scotland."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0

You can get this done in writing :
Halifax
P O Box 548
Leeds
LS1 1WUCan I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0 -
From the Halifax website:
"Halifax is a division of Bank of Scotland plc. ... Bank of Scotland plc, Registered in Scotland No. SC327000. Registered Office: The Mound, Edinburgh EH1 1YZ."
There is no Halifax legal entity based in England, nor has been for years. The OP is being mucked about."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. Its annoying when the call centres dont know what they are talking about!
She even went and asked a manager.0 -
What you cannot do is open a Halifax product in a Bank of Scotland branch, but what you were told on the phone is rubbish.
However, there are Halifax accounts that can only be opened in a branch, such as children's accounts, so Scots are pretty much prevented from having those accounts, unless they are within reasonable travelling distance of somewhere like Carlisle.
OP.....open the account on-line, much easier! They will send out the paperwork, it is all quite straightforward.0 -
Can BOS accounts also be opened online for customers in England/Wales?
:beer:God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0 -
Yes, I cannot see why that would be a problem.0
