I agree fully with heating-eng. As for Karl 123, if you taught plumbing then it's no wonder the industry is in such a state. It's difficult to read your posts as they lack any punctuation but i've gathered enough info to realise you have failed to grasp the basic concepts. Cuprosolvency has nothing to do with sludge formation. I guess you had too many free beers at that posh hotel before the demonstration.0

yes i refill my system every year and install fernox
and yes i am introducing fresh " oxygenated water "
however fernox stops copper water attacking steel and the fresh water is heated and air bled out of the system as normal
copper flavoured water attacks steel even in sealed systems conta- rary to belief
like i have state earlier i once met the chemist who works for fernox on an institute of plumbimg do
at a posh hotel i went for the free beer/and sandwiches and to chat to my " worshipfull company of plumbers pals "
and eneded up being amazed by the chemists demonstration....especially when he placed a scaled brass rod in boiling fernox and then took it out clean " i cannot teach you , i can only show you the way " that is a quote from bruce lee .........be good siya soon karl..X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.

i have used the old hose trick to clean a rad out..it works.
however if there is a posibility the rad will leak after a clean then the rad is probably old and would be better to replace. Radiator design has changed over the years and newer rads are much better than the old ones. And standard rads are much cheaper than they used to be.0 -

You need to be careful when putting full mains water pressure around a heating system, guaranteed to leak.X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.

cuprosolvency is a posh word for dissolving, copper dissolves slightly in water, so does steel,
water acts as an electryolyte causing the anode to attack the cathode " thats basic physics " do not mix metals too close together on the list of reactors " or corrosion will occur ........fernox water treatment stops this........this ( sludge ) iron filings, blocks and corodes divertor valves,
blocks pumps , ........and most importantly in modern day combi boilers causes the calorifier ( mini hot watre tank in boiler ) to not heat up as efficently due to the sludge stopping heat being transferred from one surface to another,c.o.r.g.i. engineers once examined me they gave me 100 technical questions i answered 98 corect, and i won a prize," i cannot teach you " i can only show you the way, thats a quote from bruce lee, working at the training centre, we get used to people trying to get one over on us all the time, they are the first ones to come back, when they have a problem, how do you ever expect to learn if you do not listen, keep studying.....walk safe......karl.............x
I only listen and learn from people I trust and I always question any responses I feel are wrong. It happens. I also learn by studying.0 -

I don't think that is what he is suggesting mind you I could be wrong.

Went to one were the DIY plumber had piped cold water to gas, the gas meter was full of water, funny when he turned hob on.X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.

I hope there was a double check valve behind that bib tap seeing as the other end is being run through the heating system then down a drain. F3 will only work if the rad has some degree of circulation otherwise its largely ineffective with a blockage. Powerflushing in these circumstances has its advantages and as someone else said it may still be necessary to use other methods to dislodge the build up0 -

Never done that...i just pulled rad off and used hose on the rad. never attempted to clean a whole sytem.0 -
Hi all. My central heating system had its annual service last week and the BG engineer said it needed a power flush. He did some sort of test with a magnet on copper piping and said there were quite a few blockages in the pipes. I was quoted £599 for the flush which he said has a life time guarantee. Initially, I thought my homecare policy covered it but the engineer said it did not. We have a total of six radiators in the house. Does this seem a reasonable price?0
