Which RAM for my computer?

Need to upgrade the family computer which has currently 1gb (and isn't performing very well unsuprisingly) it currently has two 500mb cards in leaving two slots free. We have decided that 2gb more (2x 1gb cards) would be suitable for what we need and budget.

We have an asroc 939 processor which takes ddr333 memory cards.

Having a look online I'm not sure which ones to buy as there are various ones with different pins, and sizes.

We need to spend as little as possible upgrading, does anyone know of any good deals and which memory card we should be buying?

TIA

Here, though I'm sure someone can come up with something cheaper.

It is more likely the PC needs a good clean. 1GB RAM for XP is not too bad.

You can enter the details here

    http://www.crucial.com/uk/

    Or use their scanner here

Once you have the details, google for costs, though try to go with a decent and reliable brand
  • Fantastic, just what we were looking for. Thank you so much.

Forget about Crucial in this case. Too expensive. The RAM in my link is Low Density and also has a Lifetime Guarantee.

More important is why your PC is slow. It needs a clean-up.

So you think that posting a single thread based in the USA about RAM for Macintosh machines has some bearing on this thread??

I'm using RAM from Komputerbay in one of my Toshiba machines with no problem.

Have you actually ordered or utilised one of their modules?

I'm not likely to after reading the post and the amazon reviews

" Item received within two days from Amazon.co.uk, but now I find it is faulty I am referred to the company which is in the United States.
This now means I have to package and post at my cost to the company. "

But to show that I am not stuck in the mud.....

You can also purchase from Offtek £42.72

    :)

....as to your 'cut and paste' of a negative review.... I ordered my item on the 5th and the 'Estimate of Delivery' was on the 9th. It arrived two days early. So I don't think we are dealing with stock from the USA.
In the case of the memory to which I produced a link in post #2; the order is fulfilled by Amazon. Which means that returns are made to Amazon. In the case of faulty items they also cover the cost of the return postage.

I write from personal experience, not from Google. I hope that has covered your concerns. ;)

No, I can't help you.....with your Jelly Beans.

  • There is plenty of used 184 pin PC3200 DDR on ebay. Can't believe how much Crucial want for it now - I keep a box of it in case I get an old machine in to repair. As already mentioned, I'm guessing your machine is about 6 years old so a good clean up and service with the current 1GB of RAM should be sufficient for everyday use.
