Exactly that. Customers will have different perceptions but the best sellers are the ones that consistently get the items there in one or two days and there are plenty who do that.It is a hard piece of pyschology to break. I buy 10 things on the same day from different sellers, 5 arrive on day 2, 5 a week later- my brain is telling me that the 5 who get it to me in 2 days are 'better' than the other 5.
I'd be surprised if any buyer even looks at the dispatch time on a listing. It's a competitive market so you need to make the customer experience as good as possible.
In my experience of selling you are more likely to get marked down on one thing if the buyer is irked about something else, so if an item arrives on day 3 and it is well packed, a good deal and no visible postage profit then you're likely to get 5 stars all round, on the other hand if something else is wrong, item isn't the same shade of blue as ordered, the envelope is torn, seller has charged £1 for wrapping the parcel in a carrier bag, etc, then they'll get marked down for it arriving 'late' as well as other issues..0 -
5-8 working days is a massive period for dispatch
Not is its stated in the auction. Ebay allow you to state up to 30 days - but expect you to post it in 1 or 2 - OR get screwed by the buyer.
I quote 5 day dispatch to lower expectations and let impatient moaners go elsewhere - but i actually post the same day if bought by 4pm and next day if not - yet still get marked down by some Ebay looneys. Most are over the moon though - as they expected it to take much longer. Thats the way i like it.
Ebay used to be fun - now its just a constant nightmare.
Most of you forget that many sellers are still normal folk and not a business - and they do actually have a life!!!
Not everyone as a post office nearby anymore either. Its not the sellers fault ebayers can read. I often have a purchase THEN a message saying they need it in 24 hours. Only a moron doesn't ask if it can arrive that quick BEFORE bidding. If people don't like it - THEY DON'T BUY IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!0 -
If you aren't a business then does it matter about stars and ratings and even feedback? It's the businesses that want a good reputation, repeat custom, top rated seller status, etc..

you assume I dont work? I look ahead and plan my end times/dispatch times accordingly. I look on i as treat others as I would like to be treated. I bought an off eBay item the about a week ago. Still havent got it but its fine because I said I was in no hurry.

You still miss the point. It doesn't matter what ebay allow or what a seller states, if a buyer compares sellers they will almost certainly keep the 5 star service stars for quick sellers but feel almost obligated to mark down slower sellers. Agreed. We all know that plenty of buyers don't read the descriptions let alone the smaller details that are there!! The person who wants an item quickly surely can't be reading all the details if they are buying from a seller who states 5-8 days dispatch!!I'd be surprised if any buyer even looks at the dispatch time on a listing.

I am def not doing ebay as a business as myself and dh work full time. Not really bothered by people giving lower start for delivery - their choice on how they interpret that option. All I was saying was that I get annoyed when people don't read a listing properly then an odd one or two complain that it is not with them wihtin 2 days. People should not presume a delivery time they should actually read the listing proplerly. Whenever we have bought from ebay we always read the delivery time so we know roughly when to expect the item. we are not in a position to go to the PO within 2 days always so we have that limit to cover our working hours.
If you are running an ebay business then, unless stated, delivery should be fairly sharp. Saying that how many items do we buy off the internet and it says 14/28 days delivery but usually comes quicker? No different to what we are doing I guess. as I said it is not a major gripe but just get annoyed at the odd person who can't read a listing properly.0 -

To be fair to any buyer, some apps don't show the full item description, so it may not be their fault they didn't see the postage details.
It could be that you specifically take note of delivery time as you know yours is contentious to some?
By the way, you can work full time in a 'proper job' and still be a business on Ebay. It is nothing to do with volume or time spent selling.0
