Groupon =(

Couldn't figure out how to search the forum so sorry if this is a duplicate thread that you've all heard a million times.

Bit of a rant first then some questions after.

I've purchased through Groupon UK several times in the past and always enjoyed the experience. I was delighted when I saw a deal for slimming underwear (from body-slimmer.co.uk) back on the 7/9/11, completed and paid for the order the next day and sat around happily awaiting my delivery and anticipating my new svelte post-baby-sag-free figure hopefully ready for a hot date with my husband for our first wedding anniversary on the 30th September.

Alarm bells first started to ring when after 7 days I hadn't received any contact from body-slimmer.co.uk. I contacted them through email and received a swift reply apologizing that there was a problem with their automated email system and assuring me that I would receive my order within 28 days (even accounting for the item being out of stock). A happy me went back to dreaming of a flat stomach without having to give up my love of cake. I resigned myself to the fact that my husband would still love me if I was flabby and kept happy that I'd gotten a bargain.

I'm sure you can all see where this is going. After patiently waiting 28 days no item, and no communication from body-slimmer.co.uk. I contacted body-slimmer again, and didn't receive a reply. So the next day I contacted Groupon's support to ask for their help and advice in the matter. Their poorly spelled response didn't fill me with confidence: wait 28 working days for delivery. No reassurance that they would aid me in any way of helping get my refund or the item dispatched, just wait. I replied with my dissatisfaction, no response from them as of yes.

So now we are 35 days after the order was placed and I have emailed body-slimmer.co.uk and Groupon reminding them both that the original agreement was for me to wait 28 days (not specified as working days) and that the distance selling regulations specify that an item must be delivered within a reasonable time (30 days, again non working) unless an agreement is made between the customer and the seller. Also that I would not be waiting for 28 working days as this took me outside of the 40 day dispute period with PayPal.

So in short. Not a happy customer. Anyone got an advice as to my rights in the situation? I've decided to give them until Saturday for a response before filing a dispute with PayPal, as it's the only way I can see me getting my money back. Anyone else had experience with a shoddy service through Groupon UK?

I too have had similar experiences with groupon (poor customer service) & no contact from sellers & waited 5/6 wks for items!!
In the end I opened a 'dispute' with pay-pal but Groupon did not contact me through Pay Pals resolution centre but my hotmail a/c
After 6 e-mails from groupon repeatedly telling me to contact the seller I e-mailed them & refused to do so as I was getting no where!
I told them point blank that it was Groupon who dealt with the order, Groupon who were paid via Pay Pal & that it was their responsibility to sort it out, I also told them that because the 10 day delivery had now passed the seller had defaulted on their side of the deal & that I would 'escalate' my claim with Pay Pal & low & behold I received the goods the following day.
On saying that I consider the goods to be cheap & inferior & not the expensive goods they proported to be & have unsubscribed from Groupon & will not be dealing with this incompetent company again :T

I too have a similar problem. I ordered LED lights via Groupon. Only after ordering on 16.09 was I made aware that estimated delivery would be 14.10.

Well done, same here once I get my money back.:T
  • I also have had not one problem, but 3 problems with Groupon goods, waited over 9 weeks on one occasion until I told trhem I was to take legal action against them, goods arrived next day by courier.
Another item arrived well after the so-called delivery date.
Now I am waiting for my 48 pc Cutlery set, which is now late.
    Opened disputes with Paypal.
But once this order is received or I get my money back, NO MORE GROUPON FOR ME
  • I have seen quite a lot of complaints regarding this company recently.

I have joined the group on Facebook to keep my eye on deals etc, though I have never ordered through them.

They get a large amount of complaints VIA the Facebook page and usually someone gets in touch with the posted fairly quickly. If you aren't getting a reasonable response via email I would go to Facebook (if you are on it) search them in the top search bar and say briefly what has happened and that you have tried to contact them twice with unhelpful and unsatisfactory replies and that you would like an explanation FORTHWITH in how to resolve the situation. Hopefully one of their admin team will see it and deal with it pronto...

As the page is very public it looks bad for them to be seen to be ignoring customers, so chances are they wont!

Sorry for waffling, I do hope you get it sorted xx

Opinions cannot survive if one has no chance to fight for them.

Well after contacting Groupon UK and reminding them of the Distance Selling Regulations they contacted me back immediately on the 16-10-11 asking would I like a refund. I was very happy and said yes: glad that I didn't have to go down the paypal route. Well guess what... surprise surprise Groupon UK haven't contacted me back AGAIN and I'm still yet to receive my refund 6 days later...

Now to contact them via their facebook page.. Fingers crossed they'll be more responsive...

Well contacted Groupon UK on their Facebook page asking for my money back please. They've hidden it from view on their wall and responded asking for the ticket number for the complaint. Fingers crossed they'll get it resolved soon.

Update on this: Groupon UK's facebook page initially responded to hide the post and make a show of asking me the ticket number so they could deal with it. Gave them the ticket number and have heard nothing from them. Contacted Groupon UK via their contact form and email twice this week and *still* not received a response.

Can I just say: if you buy anything through Groupon UK use paypal or your credit card. If it looks like it's not going to be redeemed or not show up use them to get your money back because the customer service from Groupon I've recieved is horrendous. They deliberately deceived me into not claiming through paypal within the paypal contested time period by agreeing to give me a refund, and then as soon as it was out of that time period stopped replying to my emails and messages and no sign of a refund.

Personally I will never be using Groupon UK again. Obviously just another scam to get your money without caring at all whether you actually receive the item you payed for.
  • Hi,

So glad I read this. I have exactly the same issue with body-slimmer & Groupon, and so does my sister!

I'm trying to get it sorted now too! Will let you know how I get on.

  • I posted the same problem yesterday. They changed supplier without telling anyone - body-slimmer.co.uk couldn't fulfil the orders or something so instead you're supposed to re-order (a different product in very limited sizes) from La Promocion. I'm getting my voucher refunded (and they had better refund the P&P charge I paid directly to body-slimmer too!) as the new product is not what I would have ordered and it's too big for me anyway! There goes my hopes of sucking in my post-baby stomach for the party season lol. Here's hoping the diet sorts it in time..
