Child benefit and CSA

My husband was waiting for his CSA to eventually finish as his daughter was leaving college and starting work in September. What we didn't bargain for was that she enrolled in college begining of September and then left 3 days later, but because she did that her mother now gets child benefit until December (as they only look at it every 3 months apparently) so we have to continue paying CSA until child benefit stops in December.....

The csa said it looked suspicious and to contact the benefits office and report it but I have done that and have had nothing back. I have emailed to. Its ridiculous, no wonder this country has no money when we are paying benefits to people that are not entitled to it. Hats off to her deceiving mother though!!!

My partner had the same thing, but I mainly blame the system, it's such an easy way to claim benefits/CSA for a longer period. Also as far as I am aware, if a child is going on to university, as long as the child has enrolled on a college course before 19 they can claim tax credits until the following September. So a child can go to college for a few days and the parent can claim tax credits for a whole year and CSA/CB for a further 3/4 months.

What proof do you have that it was anything but a change of mind? Why are you blaming the mother and not the daughter? The daughter was the one who had to sign up to college.

I'm sure the child is still living with the mother, and she has to pay food, utilities, spending money etc etc. I can't see why you're moaning about your OH having to contribute to the upbringing of his child.

You do not know the people in question, and you have no idea of what the mother and daughter have put my OH through over the years, and I have no intention of posting it all on here.

Just because he is not the resident parent does not mean that the child and mother are always innocent parties. People are always too quick to sling mud at the father in these situations.

just wondering how old the daughter in question is? if she is over 19 you do not have to pay csa even if she is in fulltime education

She is 18, has a job with Marks and Spencer and the CSA said it looked suspicious. As the Benefits office only look at cases every 3 months they will stop it in December but it should have stopped in September!
Her mother is receiving benefits and CSA that she is not entitled to, that is the bottom line. The system is wrong.

My OH has paid for his daughter for the past 18 years with no arrears and has had nothing but grief from the mother and daughter, and deserves to be left alone now. He has not deserved any of the grief that they have given him over the years.

Hi Runnersbean i agree with everything you say,im in asimilar situation and were so stuck. We have had avery hard time aswell from both duaghter and mother when were just trying to do our best. Have you got anywhere yet?I have also been on the phone to csa,citizens advice,child benefit and im now looking at asolicitor .My husbands daughter is living with her boyfriend at his parents,while her mother is claiming both benefits and csa while they also have 2incomes coming in it seems unthinkable that in such amodern society and with "such" technology people can be left so vunerable. hope everything gets soted for you and that you and your husband can now be left to enjoy your lives better without the pressure of financial gain from mother and daughter.
