Sexist Insurance Company

Hi,
I just wanted to have a bit of a rant about a Life Insurance Policy I recently took out with PruProtect.
It's life insurance on 'my mortgage' for 'my house' that 'I own'.
I'm not one for womens rights and all that but after taking out this insurance which covers myself and my partner who moved in with me 6 years ago, the insurance company have put my partner as the first life insured and me as the second and have even sent my partner the correspondence rather than to me. When I spoke to the broker he explained that PruProtect always put the man of the house as first insured because this is set as default.
I'm sorry but that is such a sexist attitude to have, especially today. Surely the person who takes out the policy should be the first insured and not the MAN!
I know it makes no difference on the policy but it has just peed me right off! THIS IS MY HOUSE!!!!!
Thankyou and rant over
Sarah

The insurance company have not put your partner down as first life. Either you, the broker or adviser has put your partner down as first life. The insurer just follows the instructions you gave. When I spoke to the broker he explained that PruProtect always put the man of the house as first insured because this is set as default.
What he means is that the broker always does it this way. if the application was completed with you as first life and your partner as second life then that is how it would be set up.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I have had this happen many times. I do all the research, hard work, arrange the insurance and pay for it, and the correspondence isn't addressed to me! argghhhhh! Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!

Interesting. Insurable interest, anyone?
On the application issue - I'll stick down the applicants in the order they like. On a mortgage application, first applicant is always the highest earner regardless of sex when I key it.I am a mortgage broker. Yup, this isn't the Pru's fault I'm afraid. When the application was submitted by the adviser, that's what he did on their application system. Point the finger of blame squarely in his direction.I am an Independent Financial AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as an Independent Financial Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Why not just ask them to change it?
Also, it just looks like an administrative policy or procedure, rather than being sexist.0 -

They really change the order around? I havent used Pru since their debacle years ago. So, I amend my answer to generically, insurers will go by what they are told and this makes Pru an exception.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). KINGSTREET? I'm sorry but what has a mortgage application got to do with this? I bought my house 7 years ago, ME, not me and my partner. There is only one name on my house deeds and that's mine.0

I think kingstreet was just giving an example of when systems will switch round the 'order', no matter what the applicants preferences would be.0 -
I totally agree with you Sarah.
I have had the same problem many times and I generally remind the company hat their contract is with me and often they have no contract with my husband at all (for example a holiday).
I always make a complaint when this happens.
Fortunately this are improving greatly (hopefully thanks to people who complain :-), so for example when you book a holiday these days, there is usually a LEAD name and they usually stick to it as it is a legal contract.0
