What is Ardrossan/Saltcoats like to live in ?

My lasting memory of Ardrossan is sitting watching the world go by in a busy little cafe there one morning in my leathers (was on a motorbike trip) and a police car drew-up outside.

As soon as the door opened and a short, sturdy WPC climed out, all the other customers apart from myself and a couple of old dears (who didn't bat an eyelid) got-up and ran for the back door.

The WPC strode straight through the cafe, into the departing throng who were still trying to get out the rather crowded back lobby, grabbed some skinny, middle aged guy then marched him back through the cafe and out to the car where she and her colleague had a brief pointed chat before letting him go.

The WPC then came back into the cafe and stood there hands on hips, looking straight at me like I was some sort of alien (OK, my Dad was from Greenock), just landed! I bid her good morning, smiled and then returned her gaze as she stared me out for another minute or so before turning on her heel and striding out with a face like thunder.

Strange!

The other thing I remember is that Ardrossan/Saltcoates gave the world Epsom Salts, so you could at least lay claim to living in the sh"tting capital of the world?

Ooooooh what cafe was it?
