Inexpensive holiday in Devon or Cornwall - any ideas?

Hi there

I'd like a week's holiday in the south west in August for a family of six including two teenagers and two younger children.

To satisfy all our party we need: a good beach, a swimming pool, country walks and lovely views, a nearby pub and the presence of other teenagers.

Our tent is broken so camping's out. I wondered if anyone can recommend of a nice not-too-noisy caravan site or apartment complex. Total budget £800 tops, would prefer to spend less if possible. I'm assuming rental cottages are outside our budget.

Grateful for any suggestions

Hi, yes i have been there a few times, it is a great site, just outside Dawlish in Devon, and there is a lovely walk to a nearby pub, although there is a pub on site! lots for kids to do including outdoor pool, adventure play area and pony rides.

Thanks for suggesting it, the brochure came today and it looks lovely - I'm so grateful as I would never have heard of it otherwise. Maybe see you there this summer!

The facilities are really good at Cofton - v good shower blocks, v clean.
Takeaway is good and the on site shop is reasonably priced, they dont rip you off.

I really hope you have a great time!!

Try Marver Holiday Park In Mawgan Porth, inbetween Newquay and Padstow. They are a very small family run campsite. They have camping pitches, 4 chalets with have just been refurbed, and 5 caravans.

They are situated literally 100yards flat walk from Mawgan Porth beach. Views are fantastic, walks over the cliffs brilliant, lovely pub the Merrymoor and The Riv nearby. Only thing it doesn't have is a swimming pool. But the beach is so fantastic and the waves good for body boarding and surfing you'll never see the kids anyway!

I've looked on their updated bookings and the only thing they have availability on are the statics from 18th - 31st August. SO BE QUICK, wherever you want to go, especially if budget is tight.

Why not replace the tent that's broken? Now's the time to do it with sales on you will get a bargin and have more money to spend in the long run?

Heres the link to the Cornish tourist board for the Marver and it's bookings page,

You could also try the Trevelgue Caravan site in Porth. Further from the beach, has a pool. Not sure on their prices.

Good luck. Any more info needed PM me

Thanks Benny. That site looks lovely and it's on such a beautifl stretch of coast. I will ring in the morning.

Do you know I never even thought of replacing the tent - doh! - I had spent ages trying to find a replacement for the missing pole and still haven't quite given up hope. I'll think about that but my kids have got quite excited about the idea of staying in a caravan now.

South Devon is not looking such an attractive option now: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/6283965.stm

The beaches are about to be laced with 200 tonnes of battery acids and perfumes.
