Fortunately he was near home each time, once he got towed by the RAC, the other two times he got home in time. We just pumped out the petrol and put it in a wheelie bin, then pumped through the diesel (there is a manual pump on this one) and no harm done.
I bet the bin men were well chuffed!0 -

My wife put petrol in one of our diesels a while ago and suddenly realised when she had got to about £5 worth. She panicked, paid and rushed home and I rushed back and topped it up with diesel until full and we seemed to have got away with it.
Anyway, I was in Halfords recently and found Think Diesel - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165619_productId_557009_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Travel%20%26%20Touring%2FBreakdown%20%26%20Emergency%2FPetrol%20Cans-_-Think%20Diesel%20Audible%20Warning%20Device&source=shopping
I bought one for each car, wrapped one up and gave it to her as a pressie. She thought I was being nice until she opened it and realised I was actually taking the p*ss
They were £7.99 each (although have since seen them cheaper on Amazon grr!!) which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the damage that could be caused.0 -

.
months ago i pulled into Sainsburys to fill up and a woman on the pump next to me was on the phone to her husband. The staff we banging out messages for her to get off the phone next to the pumps.
When i went in to pay she was infront of me and in earshot. It turned out it was a new car or a hire car and she's put the wrong fuel in - hence her phoning her husband. She was getting in a proper flap and wanting to push it out of the way while waiting for the husband / AA / petrol doctor... So before she left she paid for the ONE litre she'd put in. Didn't have the sense to just dilute it with 60 litres of the right stuff, just held up the petrol station instead.0
