Just changed from driving a Petrol to a Diesel.

Can see a real chance of my partner putting petrol in!

Have found the following devices on the net that supposedly prevent this happening:

Solo diesel - http://www.solodiesel.co.uk/index.asp

Fuel Angel - http://www.misfuellingprevention.co.uk/index.asp

Anyone with any experience of either device?

The new car is a 57 plate freelander so also saw some mention of modern car having something like these devices already built in?

Anyone who is considering making some comment that they would never make such a mistake please do not bother.

Thanks.

Get a "diesel only" sticker stuck on the fuel cap, under the flap.

and find out if your wife picks up the fuel nozzle with her left or right hand, then have it tattooed onto the top of her hand...

but the first suggestion may suffice

My OH has done this, said it was something he would not repeat, but he has managed to do it 3 times now!! Fortunately he was near home each time, once he got towed by the RAC, the other two times he got home in time. We just pumped out the petrol and put it in a wheelie bin, then pumped through the diesel (there is a manual pump on this one) and no harm done. Even re-used the petrol in a car! It is an 06 diesel Citroen Berlingo. It is a very easy mistake to make and I have always said they should have chnaged the shape of the pump and the intake from the start.

Personally I still would not spend out on one of these though, I would simply get one of the "diesel only" stickers from Halfords for a couple of quid or so! (OH refuses to have one, says he will never forget again (!!!)
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • I read about a device called a Diesel Head in Quentin Willson's Sunday Mirror pages. They are available on-line I think

  • SWMBO filled up with unleaded earlier this year on our 3 month old Hyundai Santa Fe. As I understand it we were relatively lucky not needing too much in the way of replacement parts. It still cost us £280 including the recovery and drain. Financial pain!

I fitted a diesel key after I saw an article in a Public Sector magazine. The company was Brooklands Innovations. I can't post links so you will need to look it up for yourselves. I looked at quite a few different products and although it cost a little more than others it was the only one at that time to have passed all the tests and had been accredited by Thatcham.

i'd go with the low-cost solution and stick something very bright and obvious on the fuel cap under the flap that will not let you forget
Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?
