Please be wary of xsaras - they are very cheap for what you get and some seem to be bombproof but many are oh so prone to really stupid faults that are inevitably hard to find. The likes of the VTS and hdi's are a bit of a bargain car for the money, can pick up a 2002 onwards car for well under a grand - but need to be prepared to do some work on them yourself / be capable of methodical fault finding.
  • Ok for your points thanks!

    mines a t reg.. 1.9 DW8 diesel.

phase 2 ones (late x reg onwards) are multiplexed and are a nightmare to do electrical work on them due to this..

but you can get a fairly good HDI for about a grand.. saw a 04 low mileage one for 995 on ebay last week..

I can highly recommend an almera. I have had mine for 4 years and it's required very little spent on it. It is an 03 plate, I paid £2.5k at the time from a local family car dealer.

Something like this looks fairly good

That was just one of the first almeras I found on ebay - do a search local to you; I'm sure there will be some good buys. Mine is a 1.5 petrol, I get around 42mpg general allround driving.
