  • Helen the co-op have an offer on just now to switch your current account to then and you get #200 after four months. Might be worth a lookm

Ooh thank you Jackieglasgow. I've been meaning to do something with our joint account for quite some time and that sounds like just the sort of encouragement I need. I finally got round to joining our local co-op society a couple of months ago and this seems like a logical next step. Will talk to OH when he gets home and see if we can sort it out this weekend.

Things like this just remind me how friendly and useful this thread is.

Mardatha - how are you doing? we've had evil weather here. Thankfully it was dark when I got home so I couldn't look outside to see how the hens are doing (now I know why they call it an ark!!!)

I have got to say I dont post much on this thread, as my wisdom is not of as great a nature as many of the others, but along with preparing for winter and is your heating on or off, and a couple of others, this is my morning reading while having my breakfast. A bit of 'me' time which as things are getting tougher its getting less!
I think things getting tougher has changed the attitude of many people, and we are seeing more of the attitudes and helpfulness that was around before the early/mid 80's.
Many thanks jackieglasgow re the co-op account I will have a look at that too.

Wish I hadn't looked at the Book People now :( They have all of the Orange short list and all of the Booker prize shortlist on special offer if you buy both lots - 12 books at just over three quid each. What I need is a local reading buddy to split the cost with me as forking out £40 on books seems such wicked, wanton squandering, even though it's my main source of escapism, entertainment, and my only remaining vice.

They've also got the cookery book I resisted buying in the works last week...

GQ Hamlyn All Colour Cookbooks 200 Slow Cooker Recipes is my absolute favourite. The breakfast casserole is to die for - although if you put it on overnight you can smell it from about 5am and it makes your tummy rumble. Also the bolognaise with chicken livers is delicious. They add a real depth of flavor.

I second that I liked the stuffed peppers recipe

Shhhhh - don't tell anyone, but only this lunch-time I ordered the Booker short list collection. I figured it's money saving as I'll go to bed earlier tucked up with a hot water bottle to indulge my reading habit so it's saving on electricity and heating. Well that's what I'm kidding myself anyway!
  • Thought I'd give an update on the runny strawberry jam made in the breadmaker. Despite hubby insisting it was fine I nuked it in the microwave for 10 minutes on high and it has set perfectly now. Success:)

Just a quick post tonight - I'm having an early night after sitting up into the wee small hours last night crying buckets after the horror Indycar crash. What a sight I was going to work this morning with big red puffy eyes! I've been lucky enough to be present at quite a few races and even though it's high speed you never think something dreadful is going to happen. It really puts things in perspective.

I promise to come back tomorrow night and read the posts, thank people properly and be less maudlin.:o

Scottishminnie, did you watch it live?:( How awful, even though you were miles away behind a tv screen it is still a horrible shock.

Turns out JSA were notified by one of my employers that I had received some wages over the summer. However, they declined to mention that the period I was being paid for was in May and June, ie before I claimed JSA! So I have just written a letter to JSA and included the timesheets I submitted, e-mail correspondence between myself and my supervisor, and the wage slip itself, all showing a tally (more-or-less - I have discovered that I have been underpaid by half-an-hour!) so hopefully that should clear the matter up. And hopefully I will get the month's housing benefit I am owed. What a pig's ear. Oh well, at least it should get sorted now.

I know they're only small amounts of money - a couple of hundred pounds underpaid HB - but to me it's a small fortune!

The moral of the story is - keep everything to do with your wages, any correspondence, even by e-mail - everything!!!!!!!

Thank you for your messages of support they mean a lot.

We are having rubber chicken this week, as we have not had it for ages. Did a roast chicken dinner tonight then stripped the meat off the carcass (to stop Oh helping himself to a leg as a snack). Have made stock from the bones as well.

Had my onions in brine last night and they are now all in jars covered in vinegar, yum yum.

I have been posting on here for a long time now but don't know how to subscribe to a particular thread. Can someone let me know please?

DD2 had an interview today for a part time job that would fit around her collage hours so fingers crossed she gets that.

Right this is very late for me on a weeknight so I am off to bed with a hot water bottle.

    Goodnight

    Mrs VP

smileyt hope your bad news gets sorted out soon. Hope things went well for taurus today. Has anyone heard from her?
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Don't do it;) £3 each is a lot for books - use the library or a cheaper charity shop source:)
