As they are giving you a "reasonable" timescale rather than the 8 weeks a lot of the banks say they will respond in I would give them a ring and ask when they expect to respond.

    Ooooerrr - help! I've received a reply from B&B:

"Thank you for your letter ........ I have now completed my investigation into your complaint.

You're questioning the fee we charge when there's not enough money in your account to cover a DD or SO payment. When you set up a DD or SO on your accounts, it's your responsibility to make sure there's enough money in the account each month. Unlike a high street bank our accounts are all savings based and we've no overdraft facility. You earn interest on all credit balances, so it's reasonable for us to charge a fee for any returned DD or SO, as we have to carry out a certain amount ofinternal work for which this charge offsets our costs.

We believe our charges are reasonable and comply with the legislation in this area. We are however aware of the concerns expressed by the Office of Fair Trading within the industry generally. We're currently undertaking a review of our charges to ensure that they are still appropriate taking into account various cost reduction exercises we've completed over the last few years within the Group.

In the interestrs of compromise I'm prepared to reduce the fees to the amount which applied when you originally opened your account. In your case the original fee was £10. Due toincreased costs this has changed to the present charge of £25. Accordingly this will result in a reduction of the charges added to your account from a total of £1070.00 over the period 27 February 2001 to the present, to a total of £520. This being a reduction of £550.00

I hope you're happy with the reduction in the fees as detailed above and I trust my explanation helps you understand why these charges were made. Should you decide to accempt my offer of a £550.00 refund, please sign and return the Acceptance of Offer form enclosed.

I look forward to hearing from you in the near future and if there's anything further you need in the meantime, do let me know."

Having read carter2006's posts I'm thinking I should write to B&B saying that I don't accept? There's no mention of the interest that I applied for either.

Would be really grateful if someone could advise pse!

They won't offer the interest as they aren't obliged to, this only comes into effect at the court stage.

Yes, I'd write back and say thanks but no thanks and I will now be taking this to court.

Once you work out the money owed and asked for it back (give 14 days) no reply then give a final 7 days (all as per templates) then you take them to small claims court. It can now be done on line and there is a guide on how to do it on this site...take a look if it gets that far.

Please note the Letter Before Action template is 14 days.
