  • Hope it's ok for me to join in - I've been doing meal plans for ages, and it was so nice to find this board and get some fresh ideas. I'm vegetarian, and OH rarely eats meat, so all these are veggy, and a lot are toddler friendly to share with the kids:

    Sun: HM falafels and couscous
    Mon: stirfry and tofu
Tues: cauldron bake and jacket pots
Wed: Chilli with tortillas, soured cream etc
Thurs: quorn stroganof (using up the soured cream)
Fri: vegetable and cashew nut brown rice risotto
    Sat: macaroni cheese

    Breakfast: cereal and toast
Lunches: the kids have frozen HM dinners e.g. lamb casserole, fish pie; I have a sandwich, OH eats at work
Puddings: fruit or a yoghurt - sadly I am the only one in my family who likes puddings, although I am still working on ds (10 months old)

    Hi everyone

This is my plan for the week (providing things go to plan)

Sun Cauliflower cheese, wedgie potatoes and peas

Mon Quorn shepherds pie, carrots and gravy(had pizza and beans and bread and butter pud because we had a glut of bread and milk intead)

Tues Pasta, beans and cheese(had shepherds pie tonight instead and cooked extra spuds to use fried up so tommorrow will be different as well)

Wed Sliced potatoes cooked in stock and green beans (with sausages for the meat eaters)

Thurs Spanish ommlette (made with frozen veg, leftover bacon etc)

Fri Stew steak, roast pots and carrots and peas (veggie burger or sausage in place of steak for me)

Sat Takeaway ( I know its not moneysaving but its a treat we allow ourselves once a week and i work all day Saturday)

This is interchangable depending on how late home I am and how organised I am the night before.

    Have a good week everybody:rotfl:

We've been given a couple of pheasants this week so we start off with:

Sunday: Pheasant casseroled in elderberry jelly stock with onions & mushrooms; roast potatoes and cauliflower
Monday: Left over pheasant casserole with potatoes and cabbage
Tuesday: Spagetti Bolognese with HM pasta
I then go away with work for 3 days. OH will be having:
Wednesday: Goulash (from freezer) and veggies
    Thursday: Chicken Casserole and veggies
Friday: knowing OH it will be Goulash again (he loves this)
Saturday: What ever we treat ourselves with from the farmers market

Breakfasts: Oats, fruit and HM yoghurt, plus a glass of orange juice
Lunches: HM soups from the freezer (choices: celery, pea & ham, tomato and lentil; veggie broth) served with a roll or a piece of soda bread; banana & apple.
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

As you'll all know by now, apart from the newbies I don't do day by day, I put a choice up for the week then it's selected from that depending on time/mood etc. Veg depends what we have in and needs using each day, these are mine and DPs meals, kids depends what we are having, there are alternatives for them like HM pizzas, chicken/turkey/fish pieces etc. Have everything in now for the week. Lunches packed for DS, DP and I soup, sandwiches, toasties or left overs. Breakfast loads of cereals, porridge, eggs etc in and will be starting HM bread from Monday :T so plenty of toast. Finding I need a argh pushed for time quick and easy meal just incase so have included that. I have loads of fruit in aswell, so deserts will probably be fruit and am baking cakes this weekend.

Steak stew (1 tub left in freezer and it's fab must make more) and dumplings
Lasagne (sauce in freezer) with garlic bread
Shepherds pie (mince in gravy in freezer just needs topping)
Turkey in breadcrumbs with chips (a DP fave)
Encilladas (if I can find out how to make tortillas as didn't buy any)
    Burgers with fries/wedges
    Roast beef dinner

Emergency 'we have no time meal' omlettes with smoked sausage/other left overs
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • We're trying to get back into the habit of meal planning, and I'm hoping that posting on here we might actually stick to it (am going to put a list on the fridge as well). This month we've been trying to use up what we already have, though getting quite limited in stuff now. Not sure what days we'll have what on, except roast on sunday, as it depends really on who does the cooking.

Dinners: (with whatever veggies we fancy from the choice we have)
    Nut roast and roast potatoes
Left over soya mince shephards pie (had the other half today and it was lovely)
    Sausage casserole
Jacket potato with beans, cheese, onions and mushrooms.
Quorn fillet casserole as we have another casserole mix to use up
    Sausage and mash

And something else with soya mince, but not sure what yet, might end up with shephards pie again, but that's ok can deal with that :) Or maybe something with rice.

Breakfast: toast / porridge / cereal
Lunch: The rest of the bagels that are in the freezer. BF will probably have soup or sandwich depending if he's working from home or not.

Only thing we need to go buy is milk and toilet rolls - cheap shop this week then :)

I'm really getting into this menu planning, week 3 now - even my mum is impressed!!!She never thought she would see the day when her daughter went OS!!
Here is our menu for this week - all HM:
Sunday - Roast Pork and trimmings (casserole with LO for freezer)
Monday - Meatballs and Spaghetti with tomato sauce
Tuesday - Toad in the Hole
Wednesday -SC Bean Casserole/LO sausage casserole from freezer for baby
Thursday - HM Chicken Nuggets and wedges
    Friday - Spag Bol
Saturday - SC beef stew with HM Walnut Bread (really fancy it but never made it so may be calling for a recipe before week is out!!)

Home baking in lunchboxes - HM soup (made sweet potato and chilli today in SC), sandwiches, LO bean casserole for those of us home at lunchtime
Spending this weeks is looking like being less than last week , I am £30 under budget so far:T And that includes a prescription for OH:eek: I'm worried i am becoming very boring!! I can't believe what a difference meal planning makes to your spending and we are eating much better - I also thought the kids were really picky until I started writing down what they eat...and its actually quite varied. Its still early days though so may have to get my recipe books out for variety soon!!
