Bargain Contract Sites

Has anyone used any bargain mobile sites, such as:
mobiles.co.uk
affordablemobiles.co.uk
intomobilephones.co.uk
buymobilephones.net
dialaphone.co.uk

If you have or have heard of anything about them, please help me out :P

Are they legit?
Are there any I should completely avoid?
Any you'd whole heartedly recommend?

Thanks in advance :D x

try looking at the threads on the first 2 pages - at least 2 of them are mentioned in their own threads. Search works well too - plenty of threads for them.

    I'd stick to mobiles.co.uk/osps/e2save and p4u/d-a-p

  • Thanks, I tried searching them on the search bar and fell into the trap of lots of pages having the word mobile in them :P

I have tried my own research, including reviews on TSR, and google, but they're all very mixed reviews, and as weird as this sounds, these sites go against everything I believe: 'If it's too good to be true, it probably is'

Thanks for all your help :D

I'm not bothered about the cashback, just the straight forward cheap contracts, I just want to make sure none of them are scams!
  • Hi, if you're just interested in straight forward deals you're laughing I would say.

They are legit businesses. Their business model is to give part of their network reward for signing customers up, back to the customer. So it's a good deal. (like a cash back model really) They have to do this because they dont have recognisable brand names (in the main) to bring in customers.

I would have absolutely no issues with purchasing from Mobiles.co.uk. DialaPhone or BuyMobilePhones.net, but I would always steer clear of cashback by redemption. The business model is that you'll get bored of redeeming - and you most definitely will!

No problems with instant cashback or Gift With Purchase from the three above.

In summary, you're just not paying for a big brand name. But takes some bravery I guess

PS. Mobiles.co.uk is owned by Carphone Warehouse, as is e2save. BuyMobilePhones is a private company.

    Hope that helps

Not sure I ever get bored with the cheques I receive back - four claims last month, three this - five in December. THAT kind of boredom I can live with (must do because it's been that way for the last four years and I'm hungry for more!). Of course, some of that is paid for by those who go in half-cocked and trusting "legit" business just because they are (in some cases) part of a large high street name OR claim they are much bigger than they actually are. Maybe researching properly is the really boring bit, since so few seem to give it more than cursory attention.
  • Whether an unrecognisable company is part of a bigger brand or not IS important if you are claiming any kind of cash back. If you've factored getting that money back, you need to be reasonably sure that the company is going to be around for the life of your cash back claims.

There have been some horror stories over the past few years with cowboys disappearing into the sun with a bag full of cash back money owed to their customers.

But I'm glad to say the reseller market is looking much heathier lately - most likely fuelled by hungry networks desperate for connections. Good news for us and the legit resellers. Hurrah!

Important, yes. Irrelevant if the punter doesn't know what they're doing and worse if they think a dealer is trustworthy merely because they are a household name.
