    They've got a Liability Order.

would that be from the bailiff or the council?

Ignore VAX's "advice". They're full of nonsense on this issue at worst, and at best lots of hypothetical ideas that might make for an interesting debate but are going to be zero point sod all help to you if a bailiff is hammering on your door.

hallowitch and Roberto Moir know what they are talking about.

You need to make sure the bailiff does not get in the house and to ring up the Council to find out the value of the liaibility order.

If you have not provided them with evidence since April 11 that your were a student until July, they will have charged you for the whole year. if you have not claimed either JSA or CTB since you left university, they will charge you for the whole year.

    So you need to

    1. write and send a copy of the CT letter from your university statig your end of term date.
    2. Claim CTB now from the date you start signing on for JSA, to remove further liability.
    3. You could try and claim CTB for the period from July to the date you signed onto JSA on low income grounds, if they allow you to back date the claim.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

I was receiving exemption up until June, my depression hit me hard and i totally withdrew and left all post unopened. The liability order is for Ct from 04/11 to 03/12.

I have an appt at the Jobecentre on Thurs, and have asked for it to be back dated.

O.k so the liability order relates to this year ie april 11 to march 12. What matters though is that the amount they are charging you is correct. The billing year may be that but you only owe from June until the end of March next year (at the moment). You need to find out from the council why your exemption hasn't been taken into account (or doesn't appear to have from April to June). It may be something silly like they need to see a new student certificate at the beging of each council tax year or they haven't copied it across properly on the computer.
The reason they have charged you up until the end of March next year is because technically council tax is payable at the start of each year ie in April for the whole of the next 12 months. Councils realsie this and usually give people 12 months in order to pay to make budgetting easier - however this is a privelidge and not a right. Since you have missed some payments they have withdrawn your right to pay in installments and have gone for a liabilty order for the whole lot.
You need to do as RAS says in post 24.

    1) Get your exmpetion sorted for being a student - provide the council with prove if they have lost it etc.
    2) Get claiming council tax benefit as soon as you can.
    3) explain to the council the problems you are having and arrange to pay what you actually owe (this will be much less when they have updated your student exemption and sorted out your council tax benefit) over a period of time that you can afford.

    Ok

So he is claiming a second visit fee - trying to get the maximum fee from you before having to stop chasing you.

the rest of the blurb is garbage and he has no right of entry, nor any right to sieze goods without a levy/WPO.

He wants to sieze goods; he has no right to, tough tittie.
