cooker doesn't work after power cut

Lost power yesterday from 2pm till 8pm and typical, one applicances did not work once power came back on...my cooker.
Dont know much about the cooker as is in built and only moved into property 2 mths ago. Have got instruction booklet out but doesn't say what to do if doesn't work after power cut, only tells me the grill will work in a power cut.
So grill is still working, but no power to oven at all, it has a clock and that is not working, without that working as its a programmer nothing else will.
What could it be? instructions booklet says 1992 at the back, can it be fixed as cant afford new cooker at the moment?

I suspect that the oven won't work until the clock is reset.
In the first instance I would contact the manufacturer to ask their advice. It may be a very simple problem.
Otherwise if the clock has been taken out you may be able to claim off your energy supplier (spike in the power etc).
You say the grill will work in a power cut - why? is it on gas or a seperate circuit?. Have you checked the main fusebox to make sure the fuse supplying the cooker isn't blown or the MCB isn't tripped?Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Bit like Hugo said, I had a problem like this a few years back. Turned out the cooker restarts in automatic mode, therefore won't appear to turn on because it needs start and stop times to be set. See if you can press/turn something to get it back into manual mode.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.

almost certainly something to do with the clock. I had an oven once and used to accidently knock the clock button onto auto and couldn't get the oven to come on in that setting. Took me a while to figure it out the first time.Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0

If you have a digital clock on your cooker try randomly pressing the buttons ie hold down one button and press each of the others in turn then repeat until you've tried every combination of buttons possible (even holding 2 buttons down etc.)
Or you could do an on-line search for the manufacturer of your cooker to see if they have a manual on-line.

If the grill works actually during a power cut (can't think why it would unless it is gas powered) and the clock is blank then I think it is just that the breaker has tripped or fuse has blown.
If the clock is displaying something but it is not the right time (probably 00:00 and flashing) then the cooker is probably in auto-mode and you need to set the time and reset the cooker to manual. How to do that will be explained in your manual.0 -
Grill works because oven/grill and hobs are gas powered, grill only works during power cut when lightened by a match or in our case and hand held lighter for safety.
The oven is new world and i rang them, but because its before 1998 i had to ring this other company. They were usesless, when i explained the problem the guy replied and 'what do you want me to do about it', i got no more information that i already knew, even when i asked should i get them out to have a look, he didn't care, saying 'do what you like'.
The clock is completely blank, i've tried numerous pressing of buttons but nothing.
How will i know if the breaker has tripped? (to be honest, i don't know what this means) or if the fuse has blown?Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Ok, im guessing my flat doesn't have any circuit breakers, as electricity is being supplied to every room and on my electricity fuse box is nothing attached to it...Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

If they are gas appliances the only electric supply will be for the ignition for the gas. This won`t have it`s own supply (cct breaker) but will merely be spured off (tapped off) the kitchen socket cct. If the kitchen sockets are all working then make sure the grill/oven/hob rings will not light when you press the ignition button. If they won`t then try what others are saying with regards to the clock.0

Think my oven has given up, as grill part works with electricity being now supplied to it, the lights for the grill come on inside and on the dial outside it lights up. (of course last night only worked with turning dial and using hand held flame)
I also unplugged the oven totally and plug in my kettle, it worked. So maybe something to do with the plug??Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160
