paint won't stick to small patch of wall

Hi everyone :-)
I'm painting my kitchen (a thankless task that I wish I'd never started but that is another story). Anyway, there is some trunking running down the wall from an electrical socket and near the top where it reaches the actual socket, either side, I cannot get the paint to stick - perhaps there is some kind of sealant and it is repelling the paint? What can I do to resolve this? I'm using normal emulsion pain for kitchens.

If you are trying to paint on the plastic trunking, just rub it lightly with some fine glasspaper to allow it to key.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Sounds like the sealant used is the "non-paintable" variety [usually very small writing on the back of the sealant tube ] ... not unexpected in a kitchen - probably said kitchen/bathroom/waterproof or something like it on the tube.
As far as I can find out, unpaintable is unpaintable.
You will need to remove it - possibly with some "sealant remover" [google it]
...or... apply a thin surface of "paintable" decorators caulk [google it again] over the area that is repelling the paint - let it dry/set and then paint as normal.
hope it helpsLearn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:

Oh great thank for all your replies, its not the trunking I'm trying to pain but either side, and yes I think it must be some kind of waterproof sealant, I'll check out your suggestions0
