Helen - your OH's laptop problems are know problems with know solutions. There was no need to reformat your FIL laptop nor your OH's ...

Please follow the instructions given above and run thru the spyware malware sticky as it gives prevention measures as well as cure procedures to follow, which you should do, when the latops are clear and your FIL laptop is up and running again.

If OH's laptop is a work laptop his company's IT Guys will remove his data and re-image it or if they do not use imaging they will follow the procedures we are asking you to do .

i done what u said ,but when i open up add/remove progs i cannot find the spysoldier,would it be anywhere else,and thanks i will take a look .

Look for a similiar name - if it is not there do not worry, the laptops IE has been hijacked that is why you are getting the messages in IE now - not from the taskbar - just run through with the smitrem procedure on the link given.

Copy the smitrem.exe to a CD from your clean PC, if you do not want to put OH's laptop on the internet. Then run thru the first 4 posts of the malware sticky, no shortcuts... . many people have followed those 4 post to clean their pc/laptops. They do work..

I hope your OH was impressed and doesn't feel too silly about wipings his Dad's laptop .... :rolleyes:

As long as all the software from the malware sticky is on the laptops now, you will be safer online.

Perhaps you want to do a HiJackThis log from OH's laptop and post it here just to make sure.;)
